Do you folks have any recommendation on Discover Qatar hotel list? Which hotels have the best location?

Best location is subjective. Depends what you want to do and how you want to do it.
You plan to just stay in the hotel?
Be able to walk along the corniche?
Go to the souk?
Eat out?
Visit the museum?
Lively or quieter vibe?
Taxis or Metro?

Etc.

I had read that non-QR tickets are not eligible? (But the programme isn't particularly popular so I haven't seen many datapoints.) Is that what you gathered as well, that transit hotels and the stopover programme is solely for QR-issued tickets?

QR's response indicates that you must be flying on a QR flight number regardless of whether the ticket is issued by QR or another carrier. "QR issued tickets" refers to tickets which begin with the numbers 157. "... flights are marketed by other airlines" refers to codeshares, regardless of which airline issued the ticket.

I have an award flight booking and have requested transit accommodation.
I knew that I wasn't eligible for free accommodation.

They replied that I could book transit accommodation for 100 USD.
But they didn't say which hotel.
Or is it always the Oryx Airport Hotel?

If it is, it would be worth considering, because it would be significantly more expensive if I booked normally.

I know that I can book a much cheaper stopover hotel. However, this time I'm specifically interested in the overnight stay at the airport.
Normally I always sleep near the Souq Waqif, have dinner there in the evening, go for a walk along the Corniche and then take the metro to the airport the next morning.

This time I would like to save myself the trip in the morning.
You can also leave the airport from the Oryx Airport Hotel, can't you?

I bought the ticket from American, the ticket number starts with 001. The flights operated by QR have AA flight numbers, AA8XXX.

If I read correctly, they only indicate you the property after you've confirmed and paid. Unfortunately that's the gamble with these programs--you may or may not get the Oryx. Yes, I think you can leave from the Oryx if you'd like, but it might slightly defeat the purpose or value or an in-airport property.

On which internet-adress did you request the paid transit accommodation?

I tried this site because could not find an other

https://www.qatarairways.com/en/hia-...mmodation.html

But this one is only for complimentary transit accommodation if no shorter connection is avilable. My trip does have a shorter connection so i know i cant get the free one but hoped they would offer me a paid transit accommodation becasue my transfer time is about 10h.
Qatar declined the free hotel of course but did not offer me a paid option. They only infomed me that, if my transit time is min. 12h (which it is not) i can book a stopover hotel through discover qatar site which is also of no help to me since my transit time is below 12h.
