Business Lounge at Birmingham?

I managed to get those great Perth bus fares from BHX a few weeks ago. Only 6 months to wait.

Anyone know which lounge Qatar are using at BHX?

remdk May 7, 2016 5:15 pm

stagsfan according to https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/lounge-access 'No1 Traveller Lounge'. Be careful since there appears to be two different lounges with the same name at BHX.

Thanks for that - rather naively limited my searches to the Qatar website

Very few people in the lounge when i attended a month ago and based on my experience of the Manchester lounge - this lounge is a lot better.

Not difficult!

Having been in the No 1 Traveller lounge in BHX once, there is only one, and didn't look as if it was divided (like some of the PP lounges in Manchester, where airline passengers get separated from PP passengers).

That page was referring to the same lounge, but for some reason separated off the AA passengers from the normal oneworld members.

I've been through the airport regularly in the last year. I dropped the No 1 lounge as a PP customer, because of the bar, and the resultant 5 minute wait for every drink. Food looked nice when I was there. I go to the Aspire lounge, which is self serve.

BobBHX May 11, 2016 5:22 am

Agree with smid regarding the bar. The No 1 Traveller lounge is nicer than Aspire and has a far better food choice but the bar is not self serve and as they are woefully understaffed the usual situation is that one person is in the kitchen heating up food or setting out food on the buffet, the other is at the front desk attending to people arriving. The bar is only attended when there is no one waiting for access to the lounge. You can wait for ages for a drink.

The same lounge is listed twice (I have been to BHX recently).

I also got a great bus fare from BHX and I contacted Qatar to see what lounge access they have at BHX. They replied saying the following:

With regards to your query, we would like to inform you that if you are departing from BHX we regret that there will be no free access to BHX lounges. For further information you may check thru this link: http://www.qatarairways.com/global/en/airports-and-lounges.page.

No business lounge for Qatar customers

Bluebrummie2000 May 15, 2016 12:12 am

just tried to get into No 1 lounge flying wit BA code share with Aer Lingus... No deal:-(

remdk May 15, 2016 2:44 am

Bluebrummie2000 you do not give much information so my answer is guesswork. Aer Lingus is not a Oneworld member but is a Gold Circle member. As far as I can see certain ticketing classes ( W, A, Z, U and T) do not appear to qualify for miles, lounge access etc. Also being a codeshare flight you need to consider who was the Marketing carrier (Whose flight number was on your ticket)? Who was the operating carrier( supplied the aircraft for the flight)? It is not really a topic that can be fully answered on the QR forum.

Look at the list of lounges on the QR website. Not only is BHX not included, neither are Adelaide or Sydney (and probably many others). I think this is a case of QR failing to update the lounges page for new destinations and the person at QR simply looking at the page and assuming there is no lounge.

I don't see QR surviving very long on any route if they don't provide lounge access.

I agree. Our flight from BHX is the morning one (07:50) so we will only be having a bacon sandwich and a cuppa in the lounge, but would rather have some peace to do that. Guess if no lounge we will turn into gate lice and board ASAP.

remdk May 16, 2016 6:15 am

Whilst QR are just too lazy to update their list of lounges there are always Oneworld lounges that can be used.

The Oneworld site is also lacking QR at ADL and SYD and possibly elsewhere. The FT Qatar forum has a list but it is in a sorry state having been moved from a Wiki to an 'ordinary' posting with the unintended consequence that only one person can update it.

There is no Oneworld lounge at BHX.

My 2 cents worth... Flew BHX-DOH in QR J around a month ago. The No 1 Lounge at BHX was decent.

Very similar to the No1 in LHR - staffed bar for booze (but free), decent seating, limited food buffet and the option to order other stuff off the menu (usually this takes a while in LHR, didn't try it in BHX). Seating was comfortable, but could get limited, but I believe EK use a different lounge, so not much chance of getting overcrowded with an A380 departure. Also appeared not to have a lav (it's rather un-salubriously located in the same corridor as the lavs).

At that time (QR034)it was pretty quiet and I had no issue finding a quiet spot to get some work done. All in all it was a solid offering. Nothing over the top, but all decent.

Smid May 17, 2016 8:07 am

I'm trying to recall if there ever was an exception to any Priority Pass lounge I've been to (Dublin, Hannover, about 3 in Budapest, Montego Bay, Cancun, Vegas), but none have ever had a toilet in the ones I've been to..... Always the toilets in the main airport.

joeu1998 May 20, 2017 2:13 am

I know theres almost zero point in even asking based off past experience at other UK airports, but any arrivals lounge at BHX?... Got a couple of hours to kill next month between landing and catching a train.

remdk May 20, 2017 2:45 am

joeu1998 QR only have arrivals lunges at DOH and since arrivals lounges are not part of the Oneworld agreement I am afraid that there is no available arrivals lounge at BHX.

theox May 20, 2017 3:20 am

There is a nice costa coffee with decent wifi just at arrivals - 2 min walk to station from here so that's what i've done in the past!

Smid May 20, 2017 5:32 am

No arrivals lounge for anyone in Birmingham.

joeu1998 May 20, 2017 7:02 am

remdk and smid no problem, thanks for the information. I had a nice visit to the arrivals lounge in DOH on a recent trip but wasn't sure how common these facilities were globally. Only major hubs obviously.

theox thanks for the tip, I'll have to wait it out at Costa! :)

Arrival lounges tend to be aimed at the business person, travelling in business. Ie: to get a shower and changed after an overnight flight, and head onwards to meetings. A few different ones at Heathrow, but district airports just don't have them...

Birmingham lounge

I see there is a new lounge at Birmingham (UK) Club room near the Qatar gate.
I am flying J next month with Qatar, be interesting if you can use this much improved lounge over the regular No1 lounge?

I suspect you'll not get it as part of QR J, only if you have PP/Dragonpass card. Unless they've changed the lounge they use.

realgaga Jan 8, 2020 11:06 am

They used the no1 lounge, so no.
