Revised security process - DOM?
Morning All,
Just flew MEL-BNE-MEL for the footy (Go Saints) - and was surprised at MEL that ALL aerosols had to be removed from bags for inspection, IME this is the first time this has happened in a long time. At BNE I specifically asked whether the Security bod wanted to inspect the offending item and was told she did, I then asked if this was a recent change since my last flight (about a month ago) had not required this.
She replied that there was a new emphasis on aerosols and they now had to be individually inspected - I suggested that a few signs would help smooth the flow, with which she agreed, but then said Brizzie airport would never help by providing adequate signage - think I hit a nerve!!
If Security processes are going to continue to change, do we need a new sticky to keep everyone availed?

I thought inspecting aerosols to ensure they had lids had been a rule for some time, even though it was perhaps poorly enforced. I suspect a crackdown on checking (maybe there's been a recent audit of security screening) rather than a new rule.

The checking of aerosols has been going on for a long while, just that different airports seem to be less focused on it. BNE is the airport which I have found to be the most diligent in checking that aerosols have lids

Yeah, this has been going on for a while. The signs saying remove laptops usually mention aerosols as well - they need to have a cap or lid so they don't go off in your bag. MEL is usually quite strict with this I find...

Slightly OT: Security quirks
I often travel with a small folding umbrella in my carry-on bag. At Canberra airport, the security person always asks me to take the umbrella out of the bag and put it through the X-ray machine separately. This doesn't happen at any other airport. I've never dared to ask the security people, but does anyone out there know why they are so fussy about umbrellas in Canberra?

I fly internationally more often than domestic, so just wanted to check in re the procedures for DOM.
Do we need to do baggies with all our creams, gels, liquids etc? I am flying to OOL this weekend
.
Thanks in advance.

Re CBR, I think this is just a reflection of the high volume of umbrellas out of this location and the time taken in a very small screening area with high PAX volume (and importance) required to secondary screen the umbrella. So it is just easier to ask for them to go through on their own.

If you mean the twist-lock deodorants - this was what I was carrying and subject to the same scrutiny as all the usual types.
