Quantas Upgrade Cert. needed
If you have any upgrade certificates that would be good for flights originating from LAX please email me at [email protected].
I have lots to trade you for from hotel rooms to Broadway show tickets, whatever. Thanks! |
QF doesn't do UG certificates like AA. QF FF's are awarded status credits, which are non-transferable other than to spouses, de facto partners or immediate family.

Thank you VirtualTroy....I wasn't aware of this. I also found out that they don't allow upgrades through F.F. miles from their partner airlines such as AA.

How AA charges the AAdvantage member for the flight is AA's business. It can be via points, or it can be with a PAID economy ticket and points/upgrade stickers/whatever. AA have clearly looked at it and decided that what they have to pay QF for an upgrade - since they have to pay for a full U seat - is not worth being able to offer upgrades on paid travel. Dave |
Can QF frequent flyers upgrade others (besides family) using their miles, if not using their upgrade credits?
I would like to u/g a flight LAX->AKL, and I'm wondering if this is even possible (assuming I find a kindly QF Freqflyer who wants to help out here, for considerable trade of course (i've got plenty of CO miles and as a plat elite, enhanced access to inventory)) |
I'm sure there's an airline called Quantas somewhere... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
From the Qantas FF Terms and Conditions: <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">10.1.4 You may assign any Award you earn through Qantas Frequent Flyer to any member of your family covered in the list below. However, there may be tax implications on such a transfer for Australian taxpayers and you will need to consider clause 10.1.5 below. Your eligible family members may use the Award whether you travel with them or not. Award tickets issued for a member of your family must be in the name of the passenger travelling. |
While you can only upgrade those "related" to you...
I am yet to be questioned about my 5 fiances, my 100 uncles or my 12 divorced mothers with unique surnames. <33333 QF |
Tread with caution.

While it is a breach of the "rules" to give an award to someone else, Qantas does this only to keep the Tax Office happy. If people were able to earn miles and "give" awards to anybody, the miles could be subjec to FBT in Australia. The limitations on who to give awards to were inserted to keep the tax office happy.

And it does not pay to mess with the Tax Office. This astounded me today.
