Qantas Points for Concorde Flight?

I just spoke with the FF booking staff as I was booking a OW award and for interest asked how many points for a JFK-LHR Return concord flight (on BA). The response - 125,000 points. This seemed VERY CHEAP compared with normal Qantas points (160,000 business class SYD - LAX). Does anyone know if this is correct (I asked him twice but did not ring back as I could not handle the 25 min wait and no info is on the website) and has anyone booked it?

yes - it is correct

It is correct. Concorde flights are just treated as any other 1st class flight. The information is on the website at http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/...ables#qf_ba_aa

A 1st class journey of up to 10,000 miles costs 125,000 points if solely on BA. A return trip LHR-JFK is about 7,880 miles.

I did a Concorde trip for 125,000 points just a few weeks ago.

A flight from SYD-LAX comes into the next category (10,001-17,500) which is 160,000 for business and 200,000 for 1st.

This is a great deal. Now I just need to get my Qantas account up to 125,000 points. Seeing that I currently have 0 QF points, this shouldn't be too difficult.

Is there any way to use AA miles for a concord ticket?

No - AA miles can't be used for any transatlantic flights on BA.

Johnep1!
Join Starwood get the account up to 52500 transfer to Qantas with the 10000 starwood bonus+ 62500 Qantas double the points -Voila you have 125000 QFF miles.
Starwood have a bonus 5000 points on offer to new members who complete 5 stays before 30th April.
I have a couple of referrals if anyone is interested.

Are the QF award redemptions strictly mileage based or are there routing rules (as on published fares?). For example, is an award routing of ORD-SFO-JFK-LHR-SFO-ORD valid (and a stopover in SFO can be added for an addition 10,000 points), or is the most direct routing required (either ORD-SFO-LHR-SFO-ORD or ORD-JFK-LHR-JFK-ORD in this example, with travel on both BA and AA)? The QF guide does not mention any routing requirement, which suggests that any combination of flights within the mileage limit is allowed ... if this is the case, some interesting routings pop into my mind (at least for my travel plans), and QF suddenly becomes competitive with AAdvantage for the award redemption costs.

UPDATE: I checked, and circular (and even more convoluted) routings are indeed allowed (including routings that are not allowed for revenue tickets!), the only requirement is to compute mileage back to the point of origin, and to have a single departure from city/country of origin (also one stopover per city, but *2* transits per city are allowed, with transit being up to 24 hours).
For example a QF award AKL-LAX-SYD-HKG-SYD-PER-AKL is allowed (and costs 275,000 in F, plus 10,000 miles for additional stopovers).

The guide only says that the total calculation has to be back to the starting point. The old scheme allowed circular journeys, I don't see why this new one wouldn't

How easy was it to get a seat?

normcpa Mar 29, 2002 7:02 pm

How do you get to/from JFK to use the awadrd if you live in San Diego?

It was dead easy booking it only a couple of days in advance. Thinking about it afterwards I wasnt that surprised. There aren't that many people redeeming transatlantic 1st class and there are 100 1st class seats on Concorde compared to the 14 in a a typical BA or QF aircraft.

You would have to buy a ticket to JFK really or use a much more expensive reward ( a one world 250,000 point reward 10,001 - 17500 miles )

What is the QFF double deal?
Starwood convert Qantas FF points at a rate of 2x1 so when you transfer 20000 it becomes 25000x2=50000.
Great deal eh?

johnep1 Mar 30, 2002 4:16 pm

Can the 125,000 miles award for up to 10,000 actual miles of flying be used with more than one airline, if they are codeshares? The Qantas site seems to suggest that, if you use the BA award, all of the flights need to have a BA flight number. Would it be possible to fly DCA-JFK-LHR for this, if the DCA-JFK has a BA flight number?
