I think it's at the top of everyone's wish list. But knowing QANTAS, they would just remove the tax free option, and only you to pay for taxes with points.

Looks like some of you got your wish

Some more GOOD changes to come later!!!

Another wish is to align the FF points earn and burn multiplier rates for premium cabins. Currently you earn 25% bonus for business flight, but must burn 100% more points for an award. Similar for F with 50% earn bonus and 200% burn penalty.

* Most of my flying is international and I really think Qantas do a pretty good job in all respects, at least in int'l J. I'd like an int'l F lounge at BNE. They should also make the F lounge at AKL a lot bigger - was 100% full when I was there about 18mths ago, I ended up heading back to the J lounge. Perhaps I'd like to be offered the cheese plate AND dessert on int'l flights. Pretty petty stuff.

* Domestically, I'd like to see seperate WP (and maybe SG) lounges at SYD and MEL. With food. I wouldn't bother with priority boarding or security lines - not a big enough problem

Since at the present time there is no International F flights out of Brisbane that lounge would be a ghost town. Certainly if F class is introduced to Brisbane then a lounge would follow. Do not hold your breath!

So we get the wish of Premium/ Business lounges!

The BNE International QF F Lounge is often quite busy. Its not big, but at certain times of the day/week it can be tough to find a seat that is not shared with other pax.

 Last time I flew internationally from BNE there was a (small) QF F lounge, full of WP & CLs. A bit like the larger AKL F lounge, although AKL at least has LA F service twice a day.

Just got the email from QF.
New Domestic Business Lounges are only for Business Class passengers, Platinum and OWE only.
I guess CL still maintain their own lounge;)

There was something in the back of my mind and a Yada Yada post on AFF crystallized it.

With these new WP/Emerald/J Domestic lounges, what is going to happen to the QP's and their members, SG's and sapphires.

Are they going to revert to (at the worst case I can envisage) an Admiral's club style of Lounge with pretzels and a Cash Bar?

Interesting point.... if the lounge is just for WP, OW Emerald and J passengers, I wonder if it will inspire many SG to go those extra miles to get to Plat? :p
But the email buletin also promised "upgrades"to existing Clubs....

There was market research recently done about the QP and what could they do to reduce the most common complaint of over crowding. One of the options was to have a scaled down, in terms of offerings, QP for paid members and SG, while WP and dom J were to get the "full service". It seems that QF listened....I fear that SG will no longer cut it with QF and DJ may be picking up more business travellers that want the ground service but see no difference between DJ or QF WHY.

ozmerish Jul 24, 2007 4:52 am

When I joined the QP in 1996, it was presented as almost a pure business environment.

I recall that there was a push for membership not longer after (maybe a year or two) and that the numbers of people in the lounges seemed to continually increase. The QP in BNE at that time required a shoehorn to get in and out of :p

Maybe this program of wanting the paid QP membership base to expand has come circle - now QF has to make modifications to the entire lounge structure to alleviate crowding issues? Wonder if the effects of non paid OWS/OWE have also been a contributor to this new shift in lounge strategy?

At the end of the day - I'll just keep going into whichever lounge I'm entitled and wait for the boarding call.

If the new domestic J lounges are half as good as the new F lounges - then it will be worth getting to the airport a bit earlier :D

Often a little concerned on these boards when people talk about 'earning' their privileges. I think the majority of (and I do not know your personal situation) SGs and WPs posting here are flying courtesy of their employers (yes, there are exceptions). Sure, there is a cost in time away from family, and enduring many BIS miles, but a significant tradeoff is the miles earned, which most employees, I believe, are allowed to keep. And people are rarely forced into a job with travel.

plenty of people have this idea that travelling for work is glamourous and enjoyable, almost an international playboy type lifestyle. while you do often get to go to some different or cool places, a lot of the time it is far from enjoyable, and quite often very lonely and exhausting. some of the places can be the most unglamorous imaginable. sure you might get a bucketload of points and duty free grog, but (as someone else pointed out) it takes more to earn the points than to burn, and some people dont have the time to use them anyway. when you're travelling a lot for work, the idea of travelling for a holiday is not appealing. most business travellers (especially those with a Y policy) most definitely 'earn' their status...

having said all that, i would prefer to travel with work than not :)

Have they closed the one that was there next the international QP ? I haven't been through there since Christmas, but it was open then ...

Fair points all justin_krusty :)

And with today's announcements, who knows what the 'regular' domestic Qantas Clubs will become. I suspect with the 'new' WP/J ticketed lounges only being targeted for MEL/SYD/BNE that the current QPs in those ports and elsewhere will continue relatively unchanged (though maybe less crowded :)). It would be a little difficult, I suspect, for QF to tell WPs/J tickets that "we have one class of service for you in MEL/SYD/BNE QPs and a lesser class in other domestic (and maybe international) lounges".

And I'll just get what I can get! :)
