Speak for yourself, but I'm far from average if that's the case. I rarely travel for work, rather for pleasure. Fair enough, I do work for a large multinational company (in fact our parent companys website reports a consolidated turnover of approximately HKD179 billion (USD23,000 million) and HKD109 billion (USD14,000 million) for the year ended 31 December 2004) but I'm not in management as such.

I work enough to have holidays which warrant enough travel to earn WP.

I know this is a dumb question... but what does WP stand for?

Based on your assumptions, I certainly would not be considered to be the average FTalker as I do not hold a high position in an ASX200 size company, nor do I do international flights frequently. NZ probably 3 to 4 times per year, the rest of the travel is in Oz. Have not done any paid J or F flights. Happy to just qualify WP the hard way.

W****** Platinum. Not quite the official designation used by Qantas. I think the level designations were derived at the first Aussie FT DO after the bar had been drunk dry and the QP (Qantas Pub) manager had expelled the salient FTers. Or something like that (I wasn't there and could never drink the QP dry, they don't have anything that I like to drink except for an occasional Boag's).

Not a dumb question at all. In fact, anyone could be excused for not knowing this. :)

I believe a group of elite QF FF program members (I certainly don't fall into that category, BTW, am a QP NB) were sampling liquid refreshments (possibly HPs) in a QP (Qantas Pub, err, Club) and decided that each status level within the program required a little embellishment. Hence:

Platinum status = W@nker Platinum (WP)
Gold status = Scum Gold (SG)
Silver status = Plebian Silver (PS)
Bronze status = Nothing Bronze (NB)

And Qantas Club became Qantas Pub (QP)

I think that is pretty close to the mark.

I'm only SG but soon to be WP and all my travel is personal and self funded.

Almost the same, only SG, and all but about 60 SC's is personally funded.

I thought it was...

SG = Somebody Gold
NB = Noboby Bronze

Or have I been wrong all this time :D

Most of my travel on QF is personal with a smattering of work related travel and tax deductible travel (some DJ, some QF).

I wish I was a CEO (or rather, in my field a CIO) of a large multinational F500 firm. Actually, I'd just like to work in a firm that is in the ASX top 200 :)

Basically I travel a lot for holidays. Getting away from it all is great. I work to live, not live to work...

No such thing as a dumb question, just a dumb answer... :)

From QF WP's Excellent thread on everything you need to know about QF and QF FT, the "Status Indicators" are Here.

And welcome to FT too...

I used to work for one of the worlds former largest Telecommunications Companies, but was no where near management! I now work for a very small company as a manager, no where near the ASX200 and the job title is largely symbolic. All my Travel is as a SFSC. I earned all my PS SC's on MEL-SYD-MEL in O/N class fares with the odd MEL/PER/MEL flight thrown in for a few extra credits. Earning 300 SC's in O/N class is not easy when you work most weekends too.

Hopefully that'll all change soon. Hopefully I'll win lotto too! :D

tuapekastar is correct - sorry drewbles!

Yes, it was the first annual BNE FT AGM where the status level titles were b@stardised to what they are today. A most memorable meeting it was too.

As for my travel profile, it is all private travel. My employer (and workmates) can't quite understand what the fascination is with BKK for buying tickets - then they can't quite understand why you can get 4 trips for the price of one when you start a RTW in BKK. They also seek advice on "how to get away with it all" - but explaining the details is just too much for some to comprehend (but mention of F check-in and the F QP makes them wake up). And I don't even dare mention FT.

It was indeed at that do that the terms were coined - but I wouldn't say that they were b@st@rdised.

From memory (and there had been a LOT of HP's conusmed prior to - and since - that event) it was a Gold (possibly myself, I think there may have been another one around) who - in the presence of all of the Platinum's, said something about being a mere scum gold (may have even been on a thread on FT before the event) - the comment was picked up, along the lines of "Well, if you golds are scum, what are we platinums?" The answer was, of course, wankas. And the rest is history.

Senior Management - but not in an "ASX Top 200" - and right glad am I.

I work for a very strong, very good private firm, and love every minute of it. I've worked for some of the big Aus (and international) companies - infinitely preferable where I am.

As for my WP status, I get that on work travel alone - but do plenty more private travel.
