Is there a sub-class of WPs
 

Since reaching Gold and Platinum with Qantas. I flew CX,QF and AA in different classes, 13 flights in total so far....
Some pax always have the Customer Service Manager (CSM) greet them for their loyalty to the alliance/airline everytime they fly. Oddly enough. I got nothing. Maybe I'm just jealous.
Just the other day flew CX HKG-BKK in Y, there was a lady 2 rows in front of me a CX Silver being greeted by the CSM, where as myself a WP and my mother a CX silver never get on the list they run around in... soo... it kinda lead me to a conclusion that there must be an A list WP/SG/PS and a B list WP/SG/PS with some of the OW carriers...

A list being people that actually spends cash on J and F :rolleyes:
B list being people who spends much less then A but still WPs :o

As I said, maybe I'm just jealous. :D as I have no evidence to support my claim :rolleyes:

When I was a QF Gold, I would always get greeted on CX flights. Since I changed to CX, and reached MPO Gold status, I never get greeted. And I have done a lot of CX flying in J class. I don't know what their "greet" rules are!

well a cynical answer would be a MPO member has already showed loyalty to CX, whereas a member of another FF program (albeit OW) has more potential "upside" as a customer.

But then I think these reports don't really reveal a pattern at all - reports seem to be all over the place.

IME CX does a good job of recognising OEE, better than QF recognise their WPs.

As a fairly frequent domestic flyer using mostly red edeals with not a single J flight in the last 120 or so flights this year, I agree there appears to be a second tier WP.

I personally know of 3 SGs who travel a few times a year on international J flights, plus several economy domestic flights and they always seem to get the star treatment, ODUs, upfront seating, personal greeting from CSM when boarding, offers of newspapers, etc., when we travel together on domestic economy.

These same guys do not travel enough to qualify WP, but would appear to spend more than me per year, due to the international J flights.

It's not just a last name thing either, as their names are further down the alphabet than mine.

I've only had such a greeting once, and that was on CX in Y. I think then I was only OW Ruby. It was nice and surprised me actually.

I've only flown CX once since (no greeting) but will do so at the end of the year in J so shall see what happens then.

Recently flew AA - nothing at all there, apart from a warm welcome at the Admirals Lounge in LAX & SFO.

When I was living in SYD, for a period of about 3-4 months I was commuting to SIN every other week, & the CSM greeting happened about 3 times - twice in a row; the other random. Since moving to SIN, it's happened once or twice in about 8-10 legs SIN-SYD-SIN.

Does it make you feel special - sure. Do I expect it - no. Do I get miffed if others are extended a greeting & I don't? Nope. I just assume they're bigger fish and besides it's probably not practical for the CSM to get around to every elite flyer.

In all honestly, the greeting rarely comes "from the heart" so take or leave it as far as I'm concerned. I continue to extend the same courtesy to the FA's regardless; I can always guarantee consistency there :)

Maybe next time it happens ask them what their policy/criteria is for a CSM greeting? I'll make a point to do it next time I fly with QF; oh, and for the record, it's never happened to me in *A Y.

I don't see the big issue with a greeting really... if they are just running through a list and going and saying hello from it, it doesn't really mean much to me.

I agree. Whilst it is nice to be greeted, it is some what plastic when it randomly occurs.

Not sure about a sub-class, but there is definitely a sub-culture of WPs.

I do all of my flying in economy and will requalify for WP only 3 months into this status year.

Nearly all of my flying is international and when I do fly on CX (about once a month) I get greeted by name about half the time in economy. I often get upgraded on CX to business if economy is full and always then get greeted.

On the ocassions when I've been upgraded to business on Qantas I get greeted about one time in four.

I do get greeted by name at the international first class lounge as I'm through there a couple of times per week.

Much nicer to be greeted by cabin crew who recognise you from a previous flight, but have forgotten why they never want to speak to you again in their whole lives ... :D
