I've seen ad in the paper, and heard ads on the radio for the last few days about this coming. I just wish they would stop talking about it and actually release the details of the scheme.

Interesting that they crank up the ads the week before the red rats 85th.

Some information regarding DJ FF Program..

I've been advised of a number of features of the DJ Frequent Flyer program. This info. is dated Mid-2005 and may have changed since then. There hasn't been alot of new information on the program lately, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens this week [If it is actually released this week].

Some features [Note: some of these may be non-existent in actual program due for release very soon]
  • Online enrollment will be free however like always it will cost to sign up via the phone (around AUD$20). The terms and conditions will also state that DJ may introduce an annual fee at any stage (similar to conditions of FC's RewardPass).
  • Enrollment will be open to people over the age of 2.
  • I've been told that at first the 2 ways of earning reward points will be by flying on Virgin Blue and renting cars [etc] with Europcar. More partners such as a Bank (Credit Card points), a Hotel etc would join through 2006 and I would expect there would be some association with Virgin Atlantic or a major carrier. REX and Virgin have a PAX interline agreement, so perhaps there could be some sort of tie-up? REX then becomes the regional partner airline earning option?
  • People will earn reward points similar to that of Qantas and not earn in a way similar to REX (Fly 9 times get a free flight etc). However please not this may have changed recently and may infact use a system similar to that of the one Regional Express (REX) uses.
  • Virgin Blue estimate that there will be 1.2 million members by December 2006 [AU/NZ].
  • The program will be available to residents of only Australia and New Zealand at first, however may be extended worldwide. I'd imagine the Pacific would come after AU/NZ.

It will be interesting to see what the length of time is before the points will expire and on which fares you will earn points.. Wonder if there will be tiered system similar to that of Qantas?

As I have said this information is dated Mid-2005 and may have changed since then. The program will be introduced before the end of 2005, and I believe now would be the best time. Profit results are out Wednesday the 16th, so perhaps this will prove to be a perfect opportunity to introduce the new program, and as others have suggested that DJ could take some attention away from the A380 and Qantas' 85th Birthday celebrations.

Interesting week ahead :D ^

Virgin Blue woos frequent fliers

Virgin Blue woos frequent fliers
November 15, 2005 Daily Telegraph

VIRGIN Blue is set to launch its long awaited frequent flier program.

However, rival Jetstar claims the launch of a loyalty program shows Virgin has had to readjust its vision.

Analysts believe the airline could spend as much as $60 million to grow its market share and increase passenger load by five percentage points over five years.

The program will be launched today in Sydney by Virgin Blue chief Brett Godfrey, following a recent ad campaign promising a "next-generation loyalty program".

But Jetstar claims the program is a sign that Virgin Blue is shedding its budget airline model in order to compete for business customers.

"They have had to readjust their model," Jetstar corporate relations manager Simon

Virgin, Emirates to take on Qantas
By Jamie Freed
November 15, 2005

Virgin Blue is poised to launch an attack on Qantas today by revealing a joint frequent-flyer scheme with Emirates and the launch of an associated credit card.

A Virgin Blue spokeswoman would only say yesterday that chief executive Brett Godfrey would make a "significant announcement" at Sydney Airport this morning, the day before its annual profit results are released.

But an Emirates representative confirmed to the Herald that the carriers had joined forces to take on Qantas. Other industry sources said Virgin was preparing to launch a new credit card - possibly in partnership with National Australia Bank - which would allow customers to accumulate frequent-flyer points. ...

Virgin Blue unveils new loyalty program

Budget airline Virgin Blue has unveiled Velocity, its new frequent flyer program.
http://www.smh.com.au/news/Business/...951130953.html

Hard to find any further details, but I'm sure they'll appear before long. Am I too much of a cynic to be thinking that the timing of this launch of Velocity is designed to soften any bad press for when the results are posted tomorrow? ie. Yeah, we've made less of a profit, but we have this great new loyalty program which will attract higher yielding pax and more of them.

EK is the major flying partner to be announced.

Similar to QF. Points won't expire while you are an active member. No mention yet of what an active member entails, but probably safe to assume it means some points activity in a certain period (1, 2 or 3 years).

No activity in 3 years leads to automatic cancellation of account and loss of points.

Seems to be a hybrid of QF and NZ programs. Earn points, but the earning rate and burning rate on Virgin Blue/Pacific Blue/Polynesian Blue is based on fare. Can redeem for any seat. Earning on Emirates and Virgin Atlantic is more traditional multiple of miles (based on paid class with only full "Y" treated as full economy), with 500 point minimum applying before the multiple; and burning is x,000 points. Full table not supplied online :(

yes... But on Virmin Atlantic all normal fares qualify for 1 pt per mile flown ; its on EK that the non Y basis earns at 0.5 per mile flown

When did the QF board start closing threads just because they are not to do with QFF. I would have thought there was enough interest in it here

Looks good so far...

... especially the availability of seats at different points levels, depending on available inventory. I wonder if EK will have DJ as a partner in Skyward: just checking their web site now, it doesn't appear so. Has anyone heard anything about that?

It will also be interesting to see if DJ will also impose the exhorbitant "fees and surcharges" that are such an unwelcome addition of award tix from So. Pac. programs...
