This is interesting. From the VS earning chart you even get points on N fares - the cheapest discounted tickets which don't earn miles in VS Flying Club - (not on the SYD route anyway) so that's good. However, full fare Y is the same earning ratio, so that's not good.

I just sent the following email to Brett Godfrey:
Hi Brett, Congratulations on the introduction of Velocity today. Thought you might be interested with the comments already about the program on Australian Frequent Flyer (an Australian-based Frequent Flyer bulletin board that I frequent). You've already got your own Forum ^ : http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/disc...forum.php?f=64 Another one that you will want to get some discussion going on, is Flyertalk (it's a US based one, but there are a lot of Australians on the QF Forum): http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=492801 BTW, nice goatee for the CA ads on TV. Very distinguished. |

It will also be interesting to see if DJ will also impose the exhorbitant "fees and surcharges" that are such an unwelcome addition of award tix from So. Pac. programs... |

Well, if Velocity is the best that DJ could come up with, then I suspect that QF has nothing to worry about. I joined up, since it is possible I will fly with them, but I must say after the hype, it seems to be something of a let down.
I doubt that this will cause QF to 'enhance' QFF. |
Got this reply from Brett yesterday afternoon:
Hi QF WP, Thanks for dropping a line. Haven't had a chance to look at the new threads today, but our team has been researching the AFF discussion boards for over a year. I actually had a chat with Clifford a while back to get his perspective. We sincerely hope our program appeals to the AFF members. If nothing else, maybe we can at least help them get a better deal from the red rat by showing that it can be done. But we think it's a great program and should lure a few more aboard us too. Glad you like the goatee. Hope Qantas like our "Happy Birthday". Must run. regards Brett |
Personally I'm happier with the 25c dividend from DJ - makes my decision to hang on to some of the shares I bought actually slightly more rewarding than watching the share price plummet down and down...
I note Brett mentions AFF but not FT. hmmmm |
I've made sure that Brett is now conversant with Flyertalk :D ^ - see the ozfest thread over on Community.

I'm sure some people did appreciate the dividend, but there seems to be a certain amount of bad press floating around anyway, this for example:-
Branson attacks Virgin dividend payment By Scott Rochfort November 17, 2005 Virgin Blue will pay $262 million in dividends next month as its 62.4 per cent owner Patrick Corp seeks to fend off a hostile $4.6 billion takeover bid from Toll Holdings. The animosity between the airline's two major shareholders intensified yesterday, after 25 per cent owner Sir Richard Branson barracked for the success of Toll's takeover. He also denounced Virgin Blue chairman and Patrick boss Chris Corrigan for approving the airline's first-ever dividend of 25c a share. Amid the chaos, Virgin Blue chief executive Brett Godfrey attempted to paint a picture of normality after reporting a 33 per cent slump in full-year net profit to $105 million. Talking up the airline's plans to move away from its "low-cost" model to its so-called "new world carrier" status in a bid to attract higher paying corporate and government passengers through its new frequent-flyer scheme, Mr Godfrey declined to take sides in the latest boardroom stoush. "Look, I only wish I could be left alone to run the airline," he said. ... Virgin Blue shares surged 15c to $1.82 on news of the dividend. |
Does anyone know a DATE this will start earning miles?
Looked on website and could not see it. Other than the NAB credit Card comes on stream Nov 30. Pretty stingy awards. :td: Even booking a Virgin 'Premium Economy' flight SYD-HKG-Saigon RT in December for ~$2000 and get the 1.5 points for that class I end up with a SYD-ADL one way on DJ. Whoppeee! Earning flights only flying DJ on $$$s spent will take an eternity for most folks. |
No idea if Virgin Atlantic DO fly to Saigon now I think on it?
http://www.bestflights.com.au/cgi-bi...indetails=4079 Anyone tried their "Premium Economy". UA's is pretty good. |
