I constantly say thanks. A cursory view of my post history confirms that.

In this instance I hadn’t actually thought your post helped. David Noble’s clarification was helpful.

There are only 5 operational QF A380s, you can work out by process of elimination which ones you could not get so it was useful.

Flight Radar while sometimes helpful, has its limitations. It’s good for VA advance data, not so good with QF advance data.

There are a few options - start a small claim case in Australia would be one. Another would be to use one of the companies in UK that take on these claims for a cut of the payout. If you are able to make claim in UK, that would be the best

They've denied it multiple more times based on unspecified reasons.
Have gone through a third party claim agent. Will post on the result!

I still can't get over how full these flights are. QF needs more A380s!

Hey allJust wanted to update on my delay claimQantas refused to compensate multiple times, and then I went to one of the online third party claim agents

They managed to get it approved within 6 weeks or so and compensation of around 400GBP was paid to me (after third party took their cut)

Money just came in today

A very frustrating process overall and glad it's over, also glad for the compensation I guess

Would have been a better payout if you had pursued it yourself, but good to hear that it was successfully resolved

I must get your tips on how to do this for next time

They were adamant in refusing initially, multiple times

Does anyone know the reason for delay on QF1 today? Schedule departure for 1705 but now pushed to 2100 as of writing.

WISEMEN Jan 13, 2023 6:06 am

General Qantas maintenance incompetence, most likely. It's far from rare.

I'm overstepping the mark as I obviously don't know the reason for today's delay.

Probably the better question is to quiz QF on what happened to the Operational Spare aircraft (20 of them ?) that were specifically available to do last minute substitutes and avoid big delays. Or at least the Public Relations group fed that line to the media a month or so ago.

Would that fall under EU-261’s definition of ‘extraordinary circumstances’?

Maintenance issues would not come under extraordinary circumstances - the poster was only guessing at that being the issue though

Koru Flyer Jan 15, 2023 3:49 pm

Maintenance issues are not extraordinary. However, as the flight is operated by a non EU carrier (QF) originating outside of the EU the compensation does not fall under EU-261 but under Australia's regulations. Which, well let's just say may stretch to a meal voucher.....
