QF narrow body at LHR
 
I was departing LHR several days ago and noticed a QF narrow body aircraft on the tarmac. Anybody knows the route this aircraft is used?

QF currently have scheduled 380 and 789 aircraft to LHR. Their only narrow body jets are 738s and 717s and, thankfully, they don’t go anywhere near LHR. The last time QF regularly scheduled narrow body aircraft to LHR was decades ago when 707s were operated.

I don't believe that that is true. istr Qantas used to run feeder services from Manchester to Heathrow using small aeroplanes

Yes to the “slot keeper” feeder LHR-MAN but AFAIK it was a BAE146 feeder wet leased for the QF ops. Unsure of livery. But it appears unlikely it had QF colours. I still maintain that QF have not had a narrow body aircraft in LHR since the 707 days.

Do you think that the airplane standing next to 380 is 789, it just looks like a narrow jet...

The LHR/MAN service was operated by a BA aircraft in BA livery (maybe a 737 but def not a 146) and was for the sole use of QF passengers arriving on QF for the onward journey into MAN. It wasn't a 'slot keeper'. It replaced the direct Australia to MAN service which was unprofitable due the the fare structures and necessary crew change.

It's a 787. See how the exit directly under the second A of "QANTAS" is open in your photo, where the 737 has no exit, and see that there are far more windows ahead of the Q in your picture than there are in the 737 - all features of the 787, not the 737.

And compare your photo with a 787 with a 737 (presented in that order)

The top edge of the fin alone tells you that it's not a 737. To the trained eye, that single edge may unequivocally say "787".
