QF123 BNE-AKL Engine Issue On Take Off

I was on this mornings QF123 when it experienced a technical problem with the left engine shortly after take off. We returned to BNE, they offloaded all passengers and we are sat at the gate while engineers inspect the engine.

The captain assured us that t wasn’t a major issue but there were a number of unexpected bangs and shuddering. The engine remained operational but at reduced thrust. There was a full compliment of fire trucks waiting for us when we landed, which is both reassuring and worrying. Assume t is standard procedure when an emergency is declared.

They have now confirmed that it will be an equipment swap and will be departing at midday.

This is could impact QF146 AKL-SYD as that service was due to be operated by this aircraft.

QF51 BNE-SIN has just been cancelled. It was due to depart at midday and be operated by a 332. I fear it is not a coincidence and the aircraft has been moved to operate QF123.

Thanks for the update. My wife and daughter are on QF146, so I have been watching this closely this afternoon. Their flight is still only leaving 2hrs 20mins late, so I suspect they have found another 332 to fly from AKL-SYD.

No, that can't be possible. QF146 is still leaving at 17:35 AKL time -- QF123 won't land until around 18:00 AKL time.

I suspect QF146 will instead use EBQ, which landed from MEL as QF159 at 16:38.

QF156 AKL MEL is also delayed, so may be that aircraft re-alloacated to QF146

Yes, I suspect they will use EBM from QF123 for QF156.

Yes if the pilot declares any type of mechanical emergency (opposed to medical) you will have a full welcome party to escort you from the runway to the terminal.

I was also on the delayed QF146. Quite a few missed connections requiring an overnight in Sydney - including me!
