Question - did QF know before the flight departed London that pax would be delayed once they got to DXB?
If they had predetermined this, I reckon it should be treated as a delayed/cancelled flight for the purpose of EU261. Shuffling pax part way through shouldn't absolve the airline from paying compensation. |
QF would undoubtedly report that they expected the repairs to the A380 to be complete by the arrival time in DXB and so the delay was unanticipatable at the time of flight departure from LHR. Even if waiting for parts they will say that they expected EK to provide a spare in DXB, which somehow did not materialize.

I know it's the Daily Mail which isn't the most respected of publications, but is it true passengers on QF2 were stranded in DXB for 2-days?

It was great how the Qantas CEO Alan Joyce managed to be on one of the first QF2 flights out after the delay. I am sure he wasn't sitting in Y either.

He's probably CL+ :)

Thanks to all who offerred advice here.
I'm pleased to say I was eventually successful in getting the €600 EU compensation. After waiting over 40 days for a reply to my initial enquiry as to what I may be eligable for, I got a standard canned response from QF saying no compensation would be given. I then wrote back a robust reply specifically quoting the EU scheme. To my surprise, they replied within a couple of weeks saying yes, I would be eligable. Received the payment yesterday. Not Qantas's finest hour but worked out ok in the end. |
Well done!
You still missed New Years, but perhaps this goes part of the way to compensate. |

But then your second response was "I believe I am due EUR600 compensation based on EC261"? Or did your first correspondence already mention EU compensation? |

So just to clarify in your first correspondence was it along the lines of "I was late, and I would like compensation" generally

And now QF2 delayed 10h again in DXB.

QANTAS A380 VH-OQA QF9 Muscat Diversion. March 25, 2017 QANTAS A380 VH-OQA operating the Melbourne – Dubai sector of QF9 Melbourne – Dubai – London Heathrow (depart Melbourne 24th March) diverted to Muscat this morning due to long weather based hold times at Dubai. Crew timed out at Muscat and the aircraft will therefore nightstop. The onward sector to London Heathrow was cancelled along with today’s QF2 London Heathrow – Dubai sector. |
Compensation
Any chance you could provide specific wording? My dad was on QF2 and is getting no where required compensation. Any help appreciated.

I am in a similar position, on QF2 through to Sydney with a significant (to me- ~6hrs) delay on the second leg.
The reasons which were stated were something to do with not having available aircraft and it being a cascade effect from a plane which went tech yesterday. I am however confused, as QF2 arrived into DXB on time (early) yet both QF9 and QF2 onward to MEL/SYD are delayed by about the same length of time. I got an email from Qantas which definitely refers to this as a single flight, and I plan to make a claim for delay compensation as this has kiboshed the plans I had pre-arranged in Sydney tomorrow. Fingers crossed, would be a nice little boost at Christmas. That being said, as above, I'd prefer to get where I need to be on time and not have to twiddle thumbs for 5hrs in the lounge. Oh well, at least it's a decent one... |
Read this entire thread and reference to Gahan.
The appeal succeeded and as such the €600 is payable. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...l#post28927110 Since you appear to have a UK address, MONEYCOL may be a good route for you to take if you can't otherwise get satisfaction directly from Qantas. Read the first few posts of this thread on the BA forum for a reasonable guide: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...61-2004-a.html |
