SYD-BKK Q-Eat offers only one meal (lunch)

I thought I'd look at the Q-eat options for my upcoming SYD-BKK flight in J.

The system only states there is a single meal service 'lunch', with a selection from a menu of 1x small plate (5 choices) and 1x large plate (6 choices). I presume there is a dessert, but this is not mentioned.

I am also surprised that for a J class 9 hour flight, that there is no second meal.

Is this another QANTAS 'enhancement'?! Is there a second meal service?

The menu is attached below for the curious,

cheers TK

Haven't done QF23 but if it is like QF128 there is a second meal using the same menu as lunch for dinner of big and small plates.

I take it you mean QF127 but, yes, basically leftovers.

Can you only choose 1 plate or you can choose as many as you want?

Also If I dont pre order my meal, will the onboard selection be the same?

I was only able to order 1 small plate, and 1 large plate. Note that some of the large plates are 'light/fast dine options - eg the Arancini and the schnitzel toasted sandwich.

I presume dessert is standard - it wasn't offered as a choice.

I have decided to take 'pot luck'.

The menu offered in flight was the same as offered online.

I had the prawn small plate and lamb rack large plate. Both were very good. Can't recall what dessert was as I don't usually have this, but I did succumb to the mango ice cream (Weis brand I think).

There was no second meal service per se, rather staff wheeled around a trolley of left overs - which mainly seemed to be of small plate choices. I tried the terrine but it wasn't to my taste too much. Snitzel or pizza would have been more tasty!

Overall a good level of service.

What direction did they wheel the trolley from? Row 1 or from the rear?

Is Q-Eat dependent on having QF status?
I've got upcoming flights on Qantas in First and business and have no options whatsoever for food.

It was always like this. Daytime AU-Asia flights always had a single meal served. Some F/A's (apparently embarrassed with this policy) would go through the cabin and encourage passengers to pick items from the snack menus. Of course TG serves two meals... Even BA used to serve two meals (still does to SIN)...

It's route dependent, but I don't believe it's offered in F.

I can't recall the direction of the trolley, but I was on QF23 in Oct, in row 1 and the first to have my order taken.
They still managed to run out of my choice before I was served.

IIRC BKK is now operated with B747 - on UD it is always rear (i.e. from the galley) to front.

From row 1 thence rearwards, including dodging the centre storage thing in front of row 4. This required a reversing manoeuvre after doing 03 A/B to go back towards the nose past row 2 and then rearwards again to serve 03 J/K.

Row 04 F/J/K were served, with a bigger reverse manoeuvre to finally complete on Row 04 A/B/E.

Q-eat opened up a few days prior to departure, including getting an email 48hours prior.

Details on QF web http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airl...erms/global/en
