737 Refurbishment

I flew ADL to SYD last night on a 737-800 which is usual for this route. However, it looked as though the aircraft interior had been through a refit:

- New cabin dividers between Business and Economy
- New overhead bins similar to the 'Sky Interior' ones
- Stickers in the overhead bins asking people to place their luggage sideway
- New vents and LED reading lights

The seats and seat covers remained exactly the same. This was VH-VXC which is one of Qantas' oldest 737-800s.

Major Refit!

BSI even ...

I have to say that whilst I appreciated the new overhead bins and the vents, the dividers were terrible. I was in row 4 and could see in to the J cabin. In fact, the dividers offered no 'division' at all. Is this some new gimmick to try to get people to upgrade to J after seeing the product in action from economy?

Maybe its the Heath Tecna retrofit that was talked about mid last year

Sounds about right, everything in that press release seems to match with what had been changed in the cabin. Why nothing from Qantas though?

Too busy with the spin in thinking how to say one less firebird and the acquisition of 5 used 717s are a good thing?

Those dividers look a bit crap!

LOL - Indeed

While the upgrades are mostly nice, they should really refit the J cabin in the leather like the new BSI birds

Yeah, but nice not to have the curtain flapping around your knees if you're 4C/D.

I'm not crazy about it either. At least the curtain gave the J cabin a little more privacy (which, it would appear, has now gone up in smoke) which is what I generally fly J for, as ridiculous as that may sound.

So no curtain to stop Y passengers going forward to use the J toilet?

Himeno Jan 18, 2013 3:02 am

VH-VXC was out of service for most of December, but I can't find anything saying why. Maybe that's when they did this.

Nope and the CSM seemed to encourage it!

The divider's design looks like the MEL/SYD Flounge carpet!

this time, copying the competition is a fail - big time.

I hate the VA plastic dividers and this is just as bad.
