Oh I wouldn't say that....when in BA F I wear a three piece pin striped suit, starched collar, polished brogues, a bowler hat and pink cami knickers.....all very British.
I bet you actually go for the Hyacinth Bucket look! I wear jeans and thongs in J all the time and no one bats a lash. |

Agree with the others. I've only ever known of a dress code in relation to employees travelling either space available (NRSA) or on business - and they are (for most airlines I'm aware of, anyway) expected to wear appropriate clothing. Pretty stupid if you're talking about a flight to Hawaii or something, but that's one of those legacy things. One time I had a free ticket bestowed on me by an airline in the US (basically a NRSA travel ticket) and it was stressed to me to look presentable. I had a bit of angst about it, but wound up in jeans anyway. The agents didn't worry about it and I enjoyed the flight.
On revenue tickets (inc. FF award)? You pay the money/points, you can wear a Borat mankini if you like.... I'll just be putting my eye shades on though if I have to see that! :D |
I disagree with the dress-down crowd. I think that velvet jackets (complete suits even better) and silk cravats should be a minimum requirement. As Eurydice Colette Clytemnestra Dido Bathsheba Rabelais Patricia Cocteau Stone (aka Patsy from Ab Fab) might have said, an Aussie bloke can never have too much leather, velvet and silk in his wardrobe.

heard rumor this morning you can not wear jeans is that true or do I have it wrong
No one really cares what you wear and frankly I think the guys that show up for Redeye PER-SYD flights in a suit are a little nutty. :) |

The reason I ask as I was talking to a friend of mine this morning and she told me about her sister who flew j/business class little while ago and she was wearing blue jeans ( $300 pair by the way) and was told she could not wear them jeans were not allowed she had to change to dress slacks..!!!
Your friend may have received an operational upgrade. About three years ago I received an op-up on a QF J domestic flight, and was asked to change out of jeans as they have a no-jeans policy for J op-ups. |

BTW: On longhaul flights I wont wear a suit. I just have comfortable clothing and change into pajama/tracksuit pants for sleeping. Hey! I pay for that flight. It is a form of transport and not a dinner-party or work meeting. Usually the people wearing suits in premium classes are the airline-employees. Just before landing the normal people dress into suits and the airliners dress into casual wear. If they just would swap cloting they can save weight on the plane. |
I thought that pax on QF's codeshare flights to Sydney from Botopaisie, Suriname are given the option of dressing more formally...
the boarding pass does say BTO-SYD. :p [Does "black tie optional" translate from American to Australian?] |
