TAAG: JNB-MVD (Uruguay) $250 ow / $600 rt in Business

Pretty wide open but hard to find on ita or Google flights

Can't say much about the airline. Only review I found was one lucky did of their new first class that did not paint a pretty picture, but maybe others can shine a light

Sample dates :

Eta: since a few people are asking, doesn't appear to earn miles anywhere: https://www.wheretocredit.com/taag-angola-airlines/j

I can see the return as low as $476: https://www.momondo.com/flight-searc...t=bestflight_a.

Great find OP!!!

Great find, love those obscure niche deals!

Business on their 773 looks.. fine.

peco Mar 27, 2020 4:20 am

IAmJasper Mar 27, 2020 4:25 am

Where can you check the fare conditions?

recki2016 Mar 27, 2020 5:21 am

U can check full fare rules on xp/orbitz during booking.

Palal Mar 27, 2020 5:39 am

The airline sucks. Worse than Aeroflot during soviet times. Surly flight attendants, bad airport in LAD and horrible soft product.

They'll get you there, so take them if you need to get there, but don't expect great service.

peco Mar 27, 2020 7:08 am

Thanks recki that helps. @ Palal: you get what you pay. I know they are not comparable to QR , SQ or even LH but....

Which date for CPT-MVD? Can't find it right now.
Edit: nevermind, thanks!
Example date is 14-10.

Swissairasia Mar 27, 2020 11:55 am

Also bookable in First CPT-GRU for around 1700 USD r/t.

First Class in their 777-300 is very nice, at least from the hardware side. And from CPT, you should have 773 all the way to LAD and GRU

EDIT: Just realised that not all of their 773 are equipped with the new seats, so I would definitely stick with Business Class ;)

pete_ncl Mar 28, 2020 1:21 am

Definitely lots of bad reviews of TAAG but it's an amazing deal in business. Food seems to be premium economy at best and layover in Luanda apparently isn't pleasant but for frequent flyers, great experience! Seat quite nice, just risk of having on IFE working. Seems to be quite common.

Does anyone know if it works to other cities? Tried EZE, SCL, GRU, GIG etc. but I'm not getting anything.

CantTurnRight Mar 29, 2020 7:25 am

Possible also to book it as follows:

CPT/JNB-LAD-GRU-MVD outbound

and return from GRU, not MVD, so:

GRU-LAD-CPT/JNB inbound

for the same fare.

I can find that on Opodo and Travelstart.co.za.

As for TAAG... I have flown CPT-LAD-GRU return in Business before. Outbound on the 773 older seat, and inbound on the dreadful 772 seat. The 773 seat is perfectly fine, but not absolutely 180° and great at this price. There are actually two versions of the 773 older seat. Both are fine. (Don’t mistake these with the 773 new seat that flies to Porto and Lisbon)
The 772 seat though is not worth any money, even this bargain price. It had me sliding down like the first SQ SpaceBed seat.

And the IFE only worked on one of the four flights on CPT-LAD-GRU-LAD-CPT - so take your iPad.

The service was fine. Nothing special. The food was also fine. As good as BA pre-DO&CO. It was served sometimes tray-service, sometimes place-set. It never seemed predictable. The champagne was great. Choice of Laurent Perrier NV and Moët NV.

That's a great review, thanks! I booked from JNB and 3 TAAG legs are on 773 and 1 on 772.

Where would I check which 773 I will be on (new vs old cabin)? Old looks quite bad, I like the new one!

New starts with row 3 in business class, old something around row 6.

As far as I have seen, the new one only is in service between OPO/LIS and LAD, so no luck for us in this fare.

It makes sense as routes to Portugal seem to be a priority for TAAG.

I checked seatguru but cannot see multiple configurations of 777-300ER (cannot post link yet).

Would you know where I can find them?

I do not have the real seatmaps in a "designed graphic" version, but this is what I got from expertflyer...

Seems to be gone btw. Picked up a ow CPT-MVD for next Feb yesterday, lets see if it sticks

w000t Apr 1, 2020 2:36 pm

Booked one of these for August and I'm actually pretty excited! Hoping the situation is calm enough to travel by then

I called to mark my seat reservation over Skype and it was surprisingly easy. The first agent didn't speak English and transferred me to another agent. The 2nd agent asked for the ticket number, confirmed some details and I gave them the seats I wanted. Unfortunately, I confirmed that it was the old business class by asking for 4A and the agent said the seats start with 6 :( oh well. Everything was done in less than 5 minutes!

Will be interesting, also looking forward to my trip and all my seats are on old business class too. Seems to be quite a difference. Let's see, maybe there will be some unexpected equipment change!

Any idea about fare rules?

i just would be afraid to fly with angoola ===) but anyway, nice find)=

Palal Apr 3, 2020 7:03 am

Just FYI - if TAAG needs a bailout, the government of Angola is unlikely to provide it given the low oil prices.

TAAG is the fully state-owned airline, so it's quite obvious they'll get it from the government.

The government may not have enough cash to do that, so they may have to downsize the airline.

Anyone who booked still have a valid ticket? checkmytrip shows the flights on TAAG as cancelled but still a valid ticketnumber etc.

I booked via eDreams for late Nov 2020 and flights still show as confirmed.

Where did you book and for which month/year??

mattanapura May 11, 2020 12:19 am

I booked via mytrips.com for mid february 21 and there everything is still confirmed, just the checkmytrip app show the flights as cancelled. And on TAAG website your cant check the booking.

I noticed that yesterday the TAAG website is not showing anything to/from South Africa after October. I suspect it has to do with South Africa still not announcing when they will open their borders.

nilsrtw May 11, 2020 3:12 am

I have a booking for late Feb but honestly wouldn't worry about it till late this year at least. I’m sure there will be lots of schedule changes/route cancellations or even worse.

Yes, I've seen this with multiple airlines. Had trouble looking for a booking with Kenya Airways for next Jan, because SA hasn't announced when flights will resume.

drvannostren May 11, 2020 6:57 am

There's plenty of time you can't even fly from like GRU-MVD for $250, this is a steal, IF your circumstances are right. I think Angola is pretty crazy expensive though and a bit hard to get into no? Great find either way, would be cool to fly on the random carrier.

They have an online visa process for most countries now, pretty simple.
