Insult SSSS over here

Ever consider your wink might be so strongly rejected because you are the wrong gender to float that TSO's boat?

Sounds retaliatory. I'd suggest reporting her, but it might impact your chance of getting a date out of it.

:D

The only "women" I know who'd see being winked at on the job by a complete stranger as a "compliment" do it part-time, for fun. If she's not within 10 years of your own age, could be perceived as sleazy/creepy.

Retaliatory SSSS still counts as abuse of au-thor-i-tay.

embarassedCATSAscreener Jun 25, 2008 2:29 am

How can you complain about being harassed via SSSS when the reason for it was that you sexually harassed her in the first place? TSA may be useless, but the screeners are still human beings. Hypocrite.

Sorry for your eye jitter. Hope you enjoyed your secondary thanks to being selected.

What would you do if a male screener winked at you?

meiji Jun 25, 2008 5:08 am

This is kind of like the thread about the FA that made the bomb joke where people who ordinarily think that overreaction isn't acceptable, the lack of overreaction because it was an FA was considered equally unacceptable.

Whilst secondary retaliation isn't something that should happen, drawing attention to yourself in certain situations (like this one) would seem to be something to avoid. I know enough women who don't like to be winked at, whistled at and so on that I'd think twice about doing it in any situation even moreso at a security line.

So, I winked at her and I was secondaried. It was the first time I've been secondaried in over a year.

So, I need to know, is winking at screeners against the SOP now? My poppa always taught me to appreciate beauty, and if anything is a violation of the First Amendment, this is it. I should be able to express myself with my left eyelid any way I wish to.

And in that case you would have forgotten to tell her how good it felt to be secondaried due to winking at her....and that you are now ready for your third.

Mod: Please move this to the “Disability Travel” Forum

I think that you might have an ADA lawsuit against the TSA for singling you out due to your eye twitch disability, which I am almost certain is protected under Federal law. Also, let us know what happens if you come down with Tourette's Syndrome, and start shouting, “F… me, S… me, Blank me you Blank” every time you go through security.

Um, please correct me if I'm wrong, but are you suggesting that if someone sexually harrases a screener (no matter how wrong that may be) that they should become judge, jury and executioner and subject that person to additional screening rather than use the legal framework available to them??

Even as a non US citizen, that seems a little (lot) wrong to me...

nrr Jun 25, 2008 6:51 am

If the agent being winked at was the one who did the extra screening, I could offer the following scenario: she thought the winker was also cute, and was hoping to strike up a conversation during the extra screening and maybe get asked out on a date.:p
[Most of the female agents i've seen are not cute--but there have been exceptions. Once I arrived at sfo (at a very slow time), when I got to the checkpoint, there were two female agents, nice looking, and I was the only one being screened, they both said "the gate is closed..." as a joke.]

I just flashed on a Tourette's Syndrome convention... :D:D:D

How is winking at someone sexual harassment? Geez, anytime I ask a woman out that could be considered sexual harassment, and how would we as a species reproduce if we couldn't express any interest?

Saying something like "hey babe, open your blouse" or grabbing her butt as he walked by is sexual harassment. Winking is not. :td:

Sending him to secondary for that is retaliation and abuse of power. :td: She should have just ignored the wink and went on.

Or maybe this was her way of winking back and checking you out.

Years ago at my first ever teaching interview (you have to teach a lesson as part of the interview) I looked up at the Head of faculty who was observing me and he winked, a nice friendly relaxing gesture, much appreciated by the nervous teacher on her first interview, as a woman, I have no objection to being winked at, perhaps that because I am neither young or cute!

Dude...winking is not sexual harassment. Or at least, not in my book. Maybe there was another reason for the secondary. In an interaction, I always take winking to be a sign of friendliness. "Have a good day"<wink> or "Don't work to hard" <wink>...not a big deal. Now if I was sitting in the food court, and someone was a couple tables away and winked at me as I was shoving a giant burrito in my mouth...that would be creepy! But still not sexual harassment, just a perv :)
