Bah. Not that I'd WANT to work at DHS, but there are plenty of places in the government that I'd like to work, but..... I can't work for government anymore. They won't insure my spouse.

Ten years of MI experience and two foreign languages down the tubes.

Not sure about the insurance issue: I believe USG full time, regular appointees, receive health benefits for employee and family without regard to pre-existing conditions.

This is a very positive sign.

The fewer people willing to work for the US government the better. The greater stigmatization attached to working for the TSA, the DHS, the IRS, the US military, etc., the better.

The fewer people willing to work for the Government means the lesser pool of talented people to draw from and as a result the lower quality in work done. And the cycle would be self perpetuating in a downward spiral

That explains the quality of people in the Administration :-)

Why? We don't screen bus passengers or metro passengers. We don't require them to show ID. How many buses or metros get blown up outside of Israel?

If you include commuter trains, I can recall it happening twice -- in Madrid and London. There was also an attempt in Milan but the bomb did not go off.

No train has been blown up in Israel but we do get screened here. We don't get screened on buses and all too many of them have been bombed.

Most of the higher ups spend their time sucking up to lobbyist, ensuring a nice fat pay check when they are finally booted from the government ranks. As for the rank and file, I think "workfare" is the best possible description anyone can give. :td:
