Does he still get secret service protection? If yes, aren't they armed?

If you breach security, aren't you automatically arrested?

No. Sometimes they do a terminal dump instead.

Good question. If the employee is authorized to use that entrance there has to be rules against using her badge to let other unauthorized folks through.

I am wondering why the electronic lock let her use her card three times in a row, shouldn't there be some kind of delay or something, I mean, who would in their normal job duties, need to pass through the same door 3 times seconds apart?

it depends on the situation. I've witnessed someone walk the wrong way through the exit and set off the alarm but the TSA and a LEO just escorted that person back out to the correct entry, it was an older gentleman who probably didn't even know what day of the week it was. On that note, if you wave your arm backwards as you exit under the sensors, the sensors will go off and they don't like that much...

There are two threads running on this topic so I'm going to merger the later one with the earlier.

I'll have to try that next time . . . :D

Seriously, though, the sensors go off at ORD T1 (UA) all the time as people exit toward the baggage claim and then stop to decide which way to turn.

(For those unfamiliar, T1 has ~15 baggage claim areas and the exit from the secure area tunnel is between area 7 and 8)

Each facility has procedures in place that deal with VIP's, foreign dignitaries, and other notables.

Each facility also has procedures/rules in place that deal with who can escort and what doors an employees security credentials open. Based upon the information given the "idot" could have been the TSA or could have been the airline employee.

Or, more likely closer to the truth, employees from both entities screwed up.

Not Gore's problem, they should have had the procedure down prior to his arrival. I would think Nashville has seen VIP's and the like before.

I'm glad I re-read the thread before posing again.

You hit the nail on the head. The responsibility is two-fold:

1) The airline employee clearly violated the rules and should have SIDA? clearance revoked. Period. Termination wouldn't seem inappropriate either. "Re-training" for such a basic and obvious violation is pathetic.

2) No "turnstile" should accept a triple swipe of that kind. Even the major transit authorities around the US have safeguards in place to prevent people from double-swiping on a monthly pass. I guess revenue loss is more of a motivator to get it right than security.

And then it would again be the TSA's fault when lines are too long because employees who have to go "back and forth" all day in order to do their job are screened each time.

Stop blaming the TSA for everything. :td:

I had a meeting a few years back with the FSD at BNA. Since I did not have a SIDA badge for BNA, the FSD met me by the airline counter and we had to transit to the secure area. The FSD actually stood in que at the checkpoint and underwent secondary screening just to get back to his office. The TSA operation at BNA is actually pretty good.

My guess is that even though the airline employee could actually be arrested for using her SIDA badge to let unscreened pax into the sterile area, nothing will happen to her.

An innocent mistake. The AA employee noticed how fat he is and tried to spare him the embarassment of getting stuck in the metal detector.
