Are arosols allowed in checked baggage?
A co worker arrived here this week and his aerosol spray can of starch disappeared. No inspection ticket was found in the bag
I am sure a baggage handler or TSA screener would not want it as it is of little value and would not be easy to fence.

Mace and pepper spray are allowed up to 4 oz. Aerosols less than 3 oz. are allowed. Aerosols for personal care or toiletries are allowed in limited quantities. But anything deemed flammable or a compressed gas is prohibited. Sprays for medical use are permitted. The TSO can remove any item, including those on the permitted chart.

Bobster's analysis is correct.
Spray starch has always been on the FAA hazmat prohibited items list.
Aerosols are flat-out prohibited, subject to limited exceptions for personal toiletries. All exceptions must be 16 oz or less and no more than 70 oz total per passenger.
A search of the FAA site reveals a poster showing a can of spray starch as a no-fly item.
