The Transportation Security Administration says it will allow airports nationwide to begin selling ads in the plastic bins. The program aims to upgrade equipment at airport checkpoints at no cost to the federal government, TSA spokeswoman Sterling Payne said. Nice timing on the TSA's part -- on election day. |

I'd like to buy some ad space.
Who's with me? |
TUL has them and has for a while IIRC.

This is more than simply annoying -- putting ads in check point trays has been practice in many places for some time now. When your things are lying in a plain grey tray it is obvious when they are there. When they are lying on surface covered with text and graphics, its easy not to notice you have left something behind. I have had to make a habit of turning the tray upside down to make sure I'm not leaving anything behind.

Someone has been adding their own home-made ads to the bins at Sky Harbor, composed of a sticky bumper-sticker type thing with a picture of a tombstone, and the legend "RIP Fourth Ammendment".
I also saw something similar in LAX last year, and I am surprised that you DON'T see more stickers defacing the bins, actually. |

<SNIP> Peel off the backing and attach the front side to the bottom of your laptop or other small bag with just a little bit of that stuff they use to hold new credit cards on the paper when you get them in the mail. When you place your laptop in the bag, the label will stick to the bottom to the bin

Saw the ads in SAN. Seemed to be quite a few for Zappos and appeared to be attempts at humor ("most of what you put in here is for sale on Zappos.com"). Given that the diamond lane was delayed by idjits who had never been through security before, I might have actually had some time to read the ads if I weren't so p-o'd about the whole thing.

It's just a matter of time til you see "Viva Viagra" in the bins.
I like the Head-On ad, though! |
