I like this. Time to become a registered traveller?

Am I bad? :(

I'm a technology junkie. Hate the shoe carnival but otherwise find the checkpoints, err, pointless bu not onerous. I don't usually fly from airports with long lines and the wife probably wont sign up, so I would not save any time anyway. I fly less than 10 time/yr.

Still, I bought an Oyster Card for London when I visit there every two years, A transit smart card for the Bay area when it worked only on the ferry (which I only use, rarely, on weekends), and a bridge toll transponder when I only cross bridges ones a month.

Am I bad for wanting to do this? Will I still be allowed to post to TS/S if I become a registered Traveller?

If you want to become an Extorted Traveller, that's your affair. Personally, I won't give Comrade Hawley another dime beyond what is already extorted from me in the form of mandatory "security" fees.

There's no valid reason that shoe harassment should exist in the first place and getting people to enroll in Extorted Traveller to avoid this harassment is nothing more than a shake down.

Your fast :). I modified my post because I wanted to start a new thread.

I agree with you that there is no valid reason for any of it. Does it help that most of the money goes to Clear, not Comrade Hawley?

(Please follow in other thread, tnx)

Unfortunately, this is probably the key piece of the whole article:

Another consideration: The widespread use of technology may threaten the jobs of many TSA screeners — a difficult pill to swallow for a government bureaucracy trying to compete for funding, Farr said.

i'm w/Spiff 100% on this one. NFW (look, caps) am i gonna a) give the gov't money for something like this where the gov't as our "protector from the axis of evil" should be doing this anyway and b) do you think i would trust the gov't or any of their contracted companies with any of my personal information other than the bare minimum such as what they get when i pay taxes, renew my d/l etc) & yeah i know they can get additonal information anyway, but that a discussion for another day folks.

i can't wait for the headline (your choice-pick your favorite)

#1-a laptop containing the registered traveller database was reproted stolen

#2-the compnay that maintains the registered traveller database reported that their system was broken into by hackers

"The shoes aren't that big a part of (the screening process)."

Tell that to Kip H.

At MXP a couple weeks ago I was pulled aside and led to a small shoe machine. I was asked to put each foot on the machine, one at a time, while the screener clicked a button. He cleared me and I went on my way. The entire process was faster than shoe removal, and more dignified.

The machine was much smaller and simpler than the one in the photo in this article.

I completely agree, the idea of a Shoe SNIFFER .... how stupid .... hey they could put just use one bomb sniffing dog on each line and keep us with our shoes on. Fido lets us through, off we go Oh, I guess this would be just too inexpensive for our government. :D

One of my co-workers quit his day job to run a private bomb-sniffing dog company. It would take a lot of dogs.

Those puppies (sic) become fatigued and have to rest regularly and too much relies on the interpretation of the handler.

Plus, my mother would never fly again if she had to let a dog near her. :D
