Japan to adopt stupid liquid rules
Just saw a notice on the JAL web site announcing that effective February 1 (I think), all international departures from Japan will be subject to essentially the same stupid liquid rules as US flights. Passengers are limited to one 1-liter "freedom baggie" and can only take containers of liquids of 100mL or less.
And the press release also said that all passengers will be required to place laptops, freedom baggies, and coats in separate bins for x-ray screening. (Until recently Japan has never required removal of laptops.) At least it sounds like domestic flights are not subject to the new rules (yet). I've taken a number of domestic flights recently, and the security process is far saner (with people who are actually competent and polite) than in the US. |
A 1 liter freedom baggie! But... but... the plane will explode!

Good thing there are no terrorism events planned in January.
Bakayaros. :td: |
Damn, the greatest place I go to, placed under the guise of british and US security rules. :( That means I gotta be ready to unpack my laptop and such now that I go back in March/April to Tokyo. Its supposed to be pretty safe anyway in Japan, is it not the fact? :(
Sanosuke! |
Of course it's safe in Japan! It's safe in the U.S., too, but the government wants people to believe that thousands of terrorists are lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce on us. All of this "security" machinery is designed to keep the population frightened. Unfortunately, it's succeeding all too well.

Frankly, I am surprised that Japan hasn't implemented the 3 1 1 policy earlier. As suprised as I am by that I am equally surprised that Australia decided to implement it.
Politicians have ruined travel! I vote for Spiff to run worldwide airport security:D |

If liquids, etc., were a serious threat to Japan, the policy would have been implemented a long time ago. |
Korea did it in NOVEMBER (I was there 11/4 at Incheon - but it was gate enforced) They were surprised whan I DRANK my bottle of water rather than dump it

i thought japanese airports had some special equipment to screen liquids?

Not surprised. The airport security insanity is infectious.

Yes, they do, which is another reason why this new rule is so crazy.
If they really thought there was a threat, they would have (1) done this much sooner, and (2) be instituting the policy for domestic flights as well. Unfortunately, seeing as these are the Japanese, they will likely do a much "better" job enforcing this policy than the morons at the TSA, and therefore it will be much harder to sneak things through security. :( |
I get it!!
Bakayaros. :td:[/QUOTE]
Only a few of us out here get this. Totally agree. Dame desu. |

I really think the only reason this is being implemented is to save them the trouble of having two screening checkpoints for passengers headed to the insane countries.
