Contact Lens solution now allowed

Don't know if this has been reported already but just read on NWA that contact lens solution is now allowed carry -on, some sense of sanity returning. :D

This is more for the T S & S forum so I'm moving it there... Mods if it's something you want to merge, go ahead.

That is good news. Hopefully BA follows suit by the end of the month.

I suspect TSA is getting overwhelmed with complaints and are having to adjust the list of items constantly. It seems to be different every time I look at their site.

What I want to know is whether I need to have a 4 oz bottle, or whether I can have an old bottle with less than 4 oz in it.

I think the standard bottles are 10 oz. I recall being given tiny sample bottles from my eye doctor, but I have no idea whether you can buy these small bottles in the store.

Target has small bottles of ReNu (not the recalled kind) in travel-sized items section.

You can buy the 4 ounce bottles in most stores. Problem is they cost about $5 each. I typically buy a three pack of 16 oz bottles at Costco (kirkland brand, which my eye doc tells me is B&L) for $8. I normally just refill the small bottle from my big ones, but forgot before my last trip. Turns out I ran out the morning before the new security measures and went and bought a new bottle, which I promptly abandoned 24 hours later in HSV on the 2nd day after the UK arrests. I was flying to ORD for the weekend and did not want to check a bag. I purchased ANOTHER bottle in Chicago, along with the other necessities, which are stored at the friends house where I spent the weekend.

Ok, I forget - why is 4 oz good and 5 oz bad? Other than an arbitrary line - probably Chertoff looked in his briefcase and saw a 4-oz bottle of nose spray or something and said "that looks like a good amount" - is there a particular reason?

Do you really think there is any logic to what the TSA dictates? I think your explanation is probably as good as any other. :p

I started carrying contact lens solution last week. The bans are just dumb and not being enforced. I am glad that the TSA is allowing sanity to return to the system.
