Ever get worried when flying?
 

Do you ever get worried that while you are flying there will be another "September 11" on your plane? Does security ever (or has ever) stopped you from taking a flight?

1. No, I do not worry about this.

2. Never been prevented from getting on a flight by security (or anyone else).

Nope, haven't worried except for maybe my first flight after Sept 11

I fly more now than I did prior to "September 11". I don't feel less safe. I do feel more frustrated with flight punctuality, aircraft cleanliness (or lack thereof) and quality of inflight meals (free or BOB).

I've never had a problem with security. I once got a secondary at LAX after arriving on a Qantas flight from SYD and continuing on a UA flight to SMF because, according to the screener, I "was Qantas". Now I may be the size of a Jumbo Jet but I hardly think I'm a full airline :) .

I'm much more worried about public transportation bus rides around Boston. Way more dangerous. It's also about the same quality of service as the "full service" legacy airlines offer these days, so it's a good comparison ;)

I remember my first flight post 9/11, a 767 from SFO-ORD with 13 passengers onboard. I wasn't nervous per se but I was 'vigilant' which I realize was silly in retrospect. Since then I haven't worried in any significant way.

The only time I felt concern was a flight from EWR to LHR in 2004. The security was extreamly tight with hand searching of about 20% of the passengers carry-ons at the gate and several police officers asking questions at the gate. No other International Flight in this part of the airport received this sort of security.

There won't be another 9/11, period. That tactic will never work again. They'll have to come up with something new.

I never get worried about that 9/11 stuff. I flew the day after the first Gulf War when it was just us and another couple on the plane to DC.

I worry more about storms and turbulence where you can see the wings flapping like a bird outside the window. I sit there hoping the engineers really know a lot about bonding the pieces together.

To answer the OP, no, I do not get worried. Even after traveling over a million miles, I still get a rush when the folks in the cockpit pull back on the yoke.

As for SirFlysALot, don't worry about the wings bouncing a little -- they are designed to do that. You would be in a lot more trouble if they didn't flex.

A Boeing 777's wing design is done so that the wings are literally pulled, arching up. Sposed to be that way.

Many commercial aircraft are designed to take much, much, much more punishment than it does in a common flight. What ATC and pilots call 'moderate turbulence' (get that farily often around DEN) is perfectly fine for the plane.

More airplanes are actually damaged on the ground by maintenance crews and catering trucks more than a plane going through turbulence.

Well I know that and YOU know that! But I just want to make sure the airplane knows that! Still it is somewhat disconcerting! :D

Nah, seriously, the planes know. Technology is amazing in building aircraft of today, even the retrofitting stuff.

Absolutely not.

First of all, because of my Christian faith I trust that God will call me home when it is time, not before. Secondly, I am a Brown Belt in tae kwon do and I will do everything within my power to stop a hijacking attempt.

Not stopped me from taking my flight, but certainly threatened me along those lines after I dared to complain or question their "authority". I have also been told that "foreigners do not have any rights here".

Flying on turbo props into known icing conditions can make me a little nervous. Other than that. the only time I get nervous when flying is when I'm doing the landing and there is a strong crosswind.
