I was referring to the issuing bank. My withdrawal limit, regardless of ATM I withdraw from, is $500/day. No exceptions. It stinks, but I work around it. I have several extra "free" checking accounts, with their own ATM cards, where I can transfer money to in order to make additional withdrawals.

eg, I need $2000, I withdraw $500 from my main account, and transfer $500+fees into three other accounts, and withdraw from them.

I hope the OP comes back to post his experiences.

Pockets and money belts aren't always the best answer, IMHO. If you get selected for the NoS, you're going to have to empty the pockets/remove the money belt. Some TSOs will make a fuss if you try to hold anything at all in your hands in the NoS (even going so far as to take a BP and run it through the xray. )

I think the best all-around answer is to keep the $ locked in the carry-on luggage when transiting the checkpoint. If you really want to be safe, put it in the carry-on before the checkpoint, just in case there's a sticky-fingered, eagle-eyed pax or TSO around.

What fee does your bank charge for wire transfers? [As I noted in another post in this tread, "good" customers are sometimes exempt (or get preferential rates.) Also many casinos are in the Certegy check cashing system--you initially set up a check cashing line, when you want to cash a check, they do an electronic debit (in LAS there is NO fee at most casinos.)

$75 on the free checking accounts I keep in order to beat ATM limits (and other purposes), but completely free on my main checking account because it's the most expensive interest bearing fee-loaded (but usually waived) checking account.

Banks down here in PR don't even come close to offering the same level of service that banks in the mainland US do.

I'd wager the heavy hitters get superb service from their banks.

The CEO of the bank, grandson of the founder, is my blood cousin.

And I get no favors.

My family has accounts topping 7 figures. And we get no favors.

Seriously.

Get a briefcase and print big dollar sign decals on the outside. Then just carry 50 $100 bills in your wallet.

Seriously, my guess is there are many people flying through Atlanta on any given day with lots of cash.

They're bad, but they're the most stable bank on the island. We deal with it.
