I always put everything in my backpack, tie my hoodie or jacket around the outside through the loops, so no one can casually open it... Packed in a way that I won't have multiple layers of electronics or the like from the orientation I put it in, put my shoes in first. BP and ID are all that I keep on person.
note to everyone; jacket last will get jammed during light throughput if no one places something heavier behind it (lead curtains). Also, putting in computer first might end badly, as the X-ray operator may think the bin is empty if their line of sight is blocked by another bag....another advantage of the butterfly style, laptop bags... I've not seen one flipped yet.
