Hell, I'm prepared to write to him from here encouraging his questioning!!!

Would someone kindly post up his snail mail address?

Bruce, did you get confirmation that your e-mail went through? If so, I'll do the same. If not, I'll snail mail and fax to his office.

Faxing is the best way to contact members of Congress. Emails may get read, but they are overwhelmed with emails and yours may get buried or just skimmed for its main content.

Snail mail to Congress members must be screened after the white powder incidents, and thus takes forever to get to them.

Faxes get right through and are generally read. Phone calls are the other good way to contact them, although there isn't a written copy for anyone there to keep and the quality of your call depends on the intern answering the phone.

TSA Backs Down on Shirtless Boy Story

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/home/50...gency.html.csp

TSA’s initial statement on the incident said the boy set off the alarm on the metal detector, a point disputed by a man who taped the screening and posted it online. Chaffetz says the airport’s top TSA official admitted the boy didn’t trigger the alarm and the congressman went to bat to get the agency to correct its statement.

“I said, ‘You guys knew that at the beginning. You lied at the beginning,” Chaffetz said Friday.

The TSA’s blog now says that the boy was given a pat down because of bulky clothing and not because metal was detected.

“New information was brought to light that indicated the initial report was incorrect,” the TSA said.

But, but, but it's OK if the TSA changes its story after the fact to cover their a$$ for the sake of nash'nul skwerwity, right? I mean after all, this is a war against passengers ter'wrists. Good on Chaffetz ^

Maybe We Can Help Him...

When the new Congress starts up in January, there will be lots for them to do, including Rep. Chaffetz. There will be a lot on his plate in addition to the TSA. Most of his direct frontal attacks on Pissy and the TSA will be during budget season. That's when there will be hearings and testimony from Pissy (assuming he's still around), as a minimum. There will also be topic-specific oversight hearings, especially if there is a GAO or DHS IG report being released to the public.

Dealing with atrocities committed against citizens by screeners will be just one of the many aspects of his job. If we're not careful, this could become overwhelming and will distract him from doing the big-picture grilling and real reform of the TSA which we desperately need. This part of his job is a lot more than just "Utah" and will require him to interface with the Senate Committee, where Lieberman is just about the #1 TSA apologist, and both appropriations committees.

If anyone has access to his Staff Director, I think it would be a good idea to propose that he set up some sort of citizen's review board to handle and integrate all of the complaints which will start flowing to his office. we can figure out a way to help him handle the TSA at a "retail" level, this will provide him more time to deal with the TSA at the "wholesale" level.

Comments? Suggestions?

From chaffetz.house.gov: Write or Phone My Offices

You may phone or send a message to me through the U.S. Postal Service. Please note that postal mail is the slowest method. All postal mail sent to my offices must be scanned for security purposes, which means it will take an additional two weeks for me to receive it.

This is an excellent idea. Really, I would like to see a permanent review board for the long term.

No, they're not your partners, Dwayne. They're your bosses. And we're their bosses.

Sorry, but that partner nonsense makes me want to regurgitate ...

+1. These spokespersons come off like graduates of B-grade MBA programs issuing such garbage. I remember when civil servants routinely garnered public respect rather than our wrath (or worse, abject apathy).

How common is it for review boards of federal agencies to hold out one seat for a citizen advisor? My mum has served multiple terms on a number of state and municipal review committees over the years, but it's not like she ever really applied for them -- board members sort of found her by word of mouth or whatever.

I think this should be on of our topics during the Security PAC call on Monday.

I don't want to dampen everyones celebration and it does seem Chaffetz is on the side of the passengers, but and there is always a but. Until Chaffetz is in there and actually does something to get the scanners back in use as secondary and gets rid of the more offensive patdowns or at least makes the TSA get rid of SSI when it comes to the patdown and lets the public in on the proper way it is suppose to be done and inforce the rules and makes every TSA Agent follow those rules. I am not going to count the chickens before they are hatched.

I have seen to many times when it looks like things are going to change only to have them remain the same.

I Just sent him an email. Note that the email must originate in his area to get through the official website.

Just look up a name in Orem UT or nearby and use that zipcode and address. Otherwise, you'll need to use another useless agency, USPS.

That's a good question that I have no answer for, but if the time was ripe for a new precedent, it's now. At any rate, I've been kicking around the idea for some sort of citizen oversight, and FliesWay2Much reminded me of this.
