"Suspicious packages" at PHL & EWR

Security Ground Stop at PHL?? Any data?

"Due to OTHER / SECURITY, there is a Traffic Management Program (Ground Stop) in effect for traffic arriving Philadelphia International Airport, Philadelphia, PA (PHL). Click for more info."

I'm hoping this doesn't impact my travel today.

Hmmm, now it's gone....

The news stations are indicating some sort "Radiological Alarm" on UPS 218 from CDG. UPS 204 to SDF was also stopped just prior to take off. 218 is sitting on Taxiway H, near RW 17-35 surrounded by emergency vehicles and 204 is sitting on the UPS ramp.

Homeland Security officials said one of the crew on the cargo plane from Paris, France, landing at Philadelphia around 9 a.m. called authorities thinking a package aboard the plane could have a radioactive makeup, according to MyFoxPhilly.com .

and

Live video from SkyFoxHD shows about a dozen emergency vehicles on the scene at the Newark airport.

There are unconfirmed reports that the Newark plane had arrived from Yemen.

Oh and what would it be without the standard quote from them?

"The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is aware of and monitoring reports of potentially suspicious items onboard cargo flights that landed safely at Newark Liberty and Philadelphia International airports," the TSA said in a statement. "Out of an abundance of caution the planes were moved to a remote location where they are being met by law enforcement officials and swept."

And from MSNBC

PHILADELPHIA — A bomb disguised inside ink toner cartridge was discovered aboard a UPS cargo flight from Yemen, CNN reported, triggering searches of other cargo flights, including several at Philadelphia and Newark airports.

They are not saying if it's related or not, but

11:02
The NYPD Bomb Squad is operating at the scene of a suspicious package on a UPS truck in Queens.

and

11:22
The NYPD Bomb Squad has just been called to a suspicious package on a UPS truck in Brooklyn. The location is 4 Metrotech Center, and the truck is on the loading dock.

from cnn:

[Update 11:18 a.m.] Investigators in the United Kingdom found a bomb disguised as a toner cartridge aboard a plane flying from Yemen to Chicago when it stopped in London on Thursday night - one reason for heightened concern at U.S. airports on Friday, a law-enforcement source with detailed knowledge of the investigation said.

Now just a "manipulated" toner cartridge, not actual explosives

From cnn:

[Update 11:31 a.m.] Investigators in the United Kingdom found a suspicious device containing a "manipulated" toner cartridge aboard a plane flying from Yemen to Chicago when it stopped in London on Thursday night - one reason for heightened concern at U.S. airports on Friday, a law-enforcement source with detailed knowledge of the investigation said. The device tested negative for explosive material.
