Why would anyone put $20,000 worth of valuables in checked luggage?

Nobody said it was all in the same piece of luggage. I suspect the $20K total was over many, many pieces of luggage.

So much for the background investigations of prospective employees and the 'video surveillance' TSA has in place to prevent such acts.

Yes, I believe that so. He didn't have to required fingerprinted screening. He could be very serious trouble from TSA. Obviously, he won't accepted work for TSA anymore. You should do yourselves to review security surveillance camera again. I want to watch the security video footage again. I need you do have more investigations for what TSA Supervisor is not appropriate to accused to steals the valuables things out of checked bags.

Because it was not safe to placed into checked bags. This is not real specific time at all. They should have to take the bags along with them into the aircraft. IT willl accused to steals the money out of checked bags. Next time the passengers will keep aware of TSA is attempting to touching the bags. Must to kept locked the bags all of the time!

Plus you know there are going to be a few TSO's who will engineer a coordinated raid of hand baggage separated from passenger's waiting to be patted out to the left of the WBI's.

You must federalize to professionalize.

The word "rube" comes to mind.

I'm surprised none of the Usual Suspects has jumped in to blame the passengers for putting temptation in the way of this poor TSO. He's only human after all  .

So you are saying that you have knowledge of more than one TSA thief. I presume that you work at one airport. So now, let's extrapolate to all airports at which TSA has a presence - that makes for hundreds of thefts by screeners.

Don't forget to include the size of this airport versus larger ones like ORD, IAD, SFO or any of the NYC ones when you'd complete that analysis

OK, we can agree that putting valuables in checked baggage isn't always the smartest thing, but it doesn't negate the fact that it is illegal to steal.

Victim precipitation shouldn't be valid when it comes to well-paid Federal employees. JMHO

Maybe it was terrorist jewelry and he saved countless lives by removing it. :D
