I've been a 1k for the past five years and seldom encounter any real issues with TSA. It's about the same as any other organization...some good folks, some mediocre and some sub par.

I question if TSA HQ staff realizes there are problems in the field. If they do know this then why aren't steps being taken to address these concerns?
Example, I reported a problem that happened at FLL, which I know reach the FSD. In my opinion the FLL FSD blew off the complaint and no action of any kind was taken. As far as I am concerned the FLL FSD is corrupt. Nothing at this point will ever change my mind on that point. People above the FSD know of the issue and have apparently have done nothing to correct the problem. In other words TSA is unresponsive to complaints from the public. Until TSA takes some internal steps to correct problems all the passenger complaints in the world will not changes things. If a complaint is filed it should be tracked every step of the way until a resolution is completed. Notice of that resolution should be provided back to the originator. I'm guessing TSA will not take such proactive steps. |

I'm just kind of curious - not to attack you or discredit you!!! - what happened that you had to report it to the FSD?
I will never trust any TSA employee. |
And here's something else to think about
"Simply this. After the hostilities are ended, there will be such a thing
as a War Crimes Commission. If this man should be convicted without proper proof, you will be held responsible, Colonel von Scherbach." - Geneva Man, Stalag 17 |

I disagree for the most part. There are encounters that are terrible and never should happen, but for every one of those encounters, I believe there are 8-10 more that are at worst neutral.

http://www.nj.com/hudson/voices/inde...-body_sca.html http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/pa...e#commentsList http://www.nwcn.com/news/washington/...-99558439.html Numbers are falling....^^ a) a large, representative cross-section of all passengers, and b) neutrally-worded context and questions a survey or poll can be desgned to 'show' a positive or negative result as desired. And nowhere is it cast in stone that the majority is always right; they are simply the majority. (No Godwin's references please !). |

I think this gets to the core of it. For a casual flier -- the kind most likely to be represented by "polls" -- 80% of the time, the experience is neutral; at the rate they fly, it could take them years before they encounter a bad experience. For the FF, however, who flies more in a year than most people do in a lifetime, that 20% hit rate could mean as often as a couple of times a month (or even a couple of times a week). Moreover, it's the FF, far more than the casual flier, who is going to be aware of SOP, and when SOP is ignored, as well as the pointlessness of virtually all of TSA's procedures. Accordingly, it's the FF who will know to complain.
I watch what goes on around me when I fly, and while I might have a neutral experience on a given flight, I almost always see another passenger get treated poorly by TSA. And except for PVD and ELP, at every airport I have visited over the past 12 months, there have been TSO's standing around BS'ing with each other, which infuriates me - they could be helping their fellow TSO's make the lines move faster. |

Agreed, I hate it when ANY passenger has a bad experience. If I could change that right now, I would, but that is simply not a realistic thought process. I have always disliked the inconsistency - it makes it very difficult for all passengers. I understand the theory, and the ability of the process to make it more difficult for someone with nefarious intent to get something bad through - but I don't like it.
If keeping "something bad" from getting through is TSA's mission then why aren't all people who enter the secure areas screened. And since you're a BDO how could anyone with "nefarious intent" slip through undetected? TSA is just like the snake oil salesmen of the 1800's. |

Nothing is 100% effective, havent we had this discussion before? Some of the old snake oils (at least from the 1800s ) actually had medicinal purposes.:D |

1. I have stated many times that I am willing to screen just like the passengers, I do not work at HQ, therefore I am unable to make this a policy.

Some of the old snake oils (at least from the 1800s ) actually had medicinal purposes.:D What is the return on investment for the BDO program? In other words, show the BDO program is a large enough benefit to fund or go screen people standing in line waiting for 20 and 30 minutes as is common at many TSA checkpoints! |
and why, when we do not have any of this theatre, do our 'planes not fall out of the sky in Australia and New Zealand?
|
Planes? Flying in the skies? TSA checkpoints? Wow. Now there's a thought that REALLY creeps me out (the 'checkpoints' one.)
Yet the lines keep getting longer, even as the public (to read THESE boards) would lynch TSA given a chance. Yup, you're going to be treated with the same respect any criminal suspect is given. The whining and carrying on hasn't done ANYTHING to change this godawful agency and its workers. Possibly my refusal to line up for them ever again hasn't helped, either, but I am not actively supporting their jobs, wages (except through gov't taxes) or unwarranted searches (remember when there used to be a constitutional law against that?) Hey, TSO Ron, were you polling me about my relationships with my wife by dragging out that old turnabout line? Tell you what. You answer what happens when an irresistable force meets an immovable object and we'll be on level ground again to continue your poll of me. Meanwhile, please, please, PLEASE learn the difference between "your", "you're" and "yore" (should you ever try THAT one, too...) so I can comminucate with you while maintaining a straight face. Just keep lining up for these happy helpers, kids. |
