DY [Norwegian] seemingly charging seat reservation fee BOS to LGW

I looked at booking a Februrary BOS to LGW
flight on DY.. I think I booked the ticket type
so I could check my bag and reserve a seat.
When I tried to buy, the DY ticket computer
tried to charge me for reserving a seat.

I do not understand. I probably should not
say this but young people probably do not
want to sit next to me as much I do not
want to sit next to them.

Call up Norwegian and see if they can let you reserve a seat without additional charge. But if you intentionally or accidentally bought a ticket type that doesn’t include free seat selection in advance of check-in (if even then), then you will have to pay for specific seat selection at some point or just go with whatever Norwegian assigns at check-in.

Even if you're booked on Lowfare+ (and of course LowFare), seat reservation IS NOT included on long-haul flights to/from LGW, BCN and MAD: https://www.norwegian.com/us/travel-...t-reservation/ .
You would have to buy a Flex or Premium ticket to get free seat reservation on these legs.

And when you chose your seat, whether paid or free, how will you tell the age of the person in the next seat?

At which age does "young" end? 15? 25? 35? Anyway, the easy solution to your problem is to fly C or F on a legacy airline.

Good replies. I did not book a ticket. DY should update
their web page because it says reserved seat included.
I did not realize there was an extra fee until I got to
the reserve seat screen. With the seat reservation
fees, DY is now about average price at least in Feb.

Wonder why they now don't include them in LowFare+.
They did back when I went from LGW - LAS in Jan.
