Plus I kind of like Inside Flyer. Randy said it will remain the same deal for now, if you join Inside Flyer you will get the add free FT and it's like 12 dollars a year or something like that. I did the two year thing for 24 bucks and my loading issues have become much better even when I use IE. Just spending the 24 bucks or whatever it was (mabye 48 I can't remember but it was not that bad for me) I already feel it's money well spent and I still get 1 year and 50 weeks or so left of this. :D

FT premium? There is a FlyerTalk that costs money?

Sorry to take this OT as the Q/A with IB is important.

Go to Members on the top or your page, first button FlyerTalk Premium, right above lost password. Click on it and it will explain. 12 bucks a year to join inside flyer and you get ad free flyertalk which helped my loading issue.

Anything that IB can do in the future to look at options for the people that only have dial up (please don't laugh at us poor souls, just pitty us, as some places in the world only have dial up) would be helpful to some of us out there.

In what ways will the Moderators be effected by the change of ownership of the site?
No changes are planned for the leadership of FlyerTalk, either with the moderators or the Talk Board (members elected into a governance role).

Will Randy still be involved with FlyerTalk going forward? What role will he play?
Yes, Randy will have a very active role with FlyerTalk for years to come, largely unchanged from his role to date.

What is the new ownership's position on moderators? Are you open to suggestions to improve moderation and enhance FT members' experience? If so, where can those questions be directed?

Re. cactuspete

Yes, we are very open to suggestions on the moderators' work. We haven't established a position on the most effective places to discuss this. People are welcome to message me. However, we're still leaning heavy on Randy and his team, the mods and the TB to guide how the site is run. We have a lot of learning to do!

Great. That's a refreshing change. ^ ^

It should be an open, public forum, IMO. This one is as good as any, if you give us the go ahead (in the past, any attempt at discussing moderation has been immediately squelched - - even if it didn't touch on specific moderator actions).

Thank you. I'll first wait a bit to see if we can have a public discussion, then I might accept that offer.

As well you should. But there's always room for improvement.

Randy, is it true that Internet Brands is owned by biddingfortravel.com, and that you will now be reporting to the administrator of that site?

Jus' kidding. Congratulations.

Are the new embedded HTML ads an April fools joke, or something to look forward to in the future?

It's not something greasemonkey won't solve, but I'm wondering if this is a HOM thing or an IB thing?

Wow FT got sold, :( it was a big shock when I first read about it and I wasn't overly positive about what might happen.

After a few weeks and reading all the replies after the initial negative comments seems like FT will keep going and hopefully get even better.

Software changes and hardware needs to be changed so you need a company that can keep up with the changes to keep FT going strong.

Thanks JohnMcG for joining in the discussion and answering our questions. Moderators are good, don't get rid of them they keep the discussion on track, also I am sure cheap labour. 2 suggestions, don't open up OMNI for all, users should have signed up to read and learn about miles, and secondly move Trip Reports it shouldn't be left at the bottom of the forums.

Its good that Randy will be here for another few years yet.

Is this sale the real reason Randy didn't make it to the London FT do.

John, can you comment on the changes that have occurred since you wrote the above? I'm thinking particularly of the porn advertisements and the new search. You note that you'll look to the FT community about vision for changes; I don't remember being asked about either of the changes I mentioned above.

Thanks.

John,

Continuing magiciansampras' thoughts I sincerely hope your group doesn't turn this into a porn site. While viewing a page here the ad on the right was a full frontal nude of a model using her hand to spread her labia.

Will this continue and if not, what actions are you and IB taking to see that is doesn't happen again?

Aside from being inappropriate at this site, it makes viewing FT at work an impossibility. For that matter, the less pornographic ads highlighting the butts of women make the site unviewable in a professional setting.

I find this change a very low blow to the community here.

JohnMcG recently replied on another thread for this topic ... here's the link:

He has an email address to use to complain/identify the bad ads (and I so glad I have that premium subscription given everything I read here and there about what's now being advertised on FT :td: )

That isn't a response. That's called a cop out.

I haven't noticed any such ads of a risque nature, just regular G-rated ads. Perhaps different audiences are targetted differently, but this seems like a quick way to turn off a segment of the FT audience no matter how this is sliced and diced.

Maybe the ads are "smart" and are targetted to the other types of sites you visit ;)
