Exactly my point. Taking away the post-count earning of OMNI was fine. But I don't really see the benefit of turning this post-count business into a life's work, as some seem to be advocating. I think it's a waste of time.

Expecially since it would only please a couple of members.

I think a couple of evangelists and the dude with 27 posts who started this thread and hasn't been on FT for over a week.

Amazing the power of a newbie

A wise FlyerTalk member once gave these words of sage advice:

One should be concerned with having each post count rather than be concerned about one’s post count.

Another wise FTer told me once

"Wherever you go, there you are"

:D

Thank you for personally commenting on my non-availability of free time. I am currently gearing up to return to school and have not had he luxury of internet for the past two weeks. Unlike you, my obligations prevent me from having the time to bash other newbies on this board.

I'm only a college student, but it seems to me that there are a lot more younger people on this UBB and it saddens me to think that some of them are moderators. :(

I did not make this decision. I merely suggested it as a way to improve Flyertalk. Some people out there agree with me, others don't. Deal with it.

Thank you.

You must be joking, I always welcome newbies to this board, what is surprising to me is that as ScottC said, this is an issue that is quite old, and for someone to come out of the blue, make a suggestion that has been made countless times before, and before you know it, shazzam, it is done, it is quite amazing

Not sure what you mean here, but don't be sad ;)

We will deal with it, thanks

Well try a bit harder. It looks like you've failed at dealing with it, IMHO.

Thank you.

Personal attack, personal attack, is there a moderator around :D

Wow.

Just a quick pointer here, we try and be a little more considerate of our fellow members. This is a good example of where a post count CAN serve as a pointer to ones credibility. You have 29 posts to your name, and jfe is an extremely well respected moderator and one of the first batch of moderators appointed to the board who also happens to have several thousand posts. Care to guess which one will have the most credibility?

You'll find your experience on Flyertalk much more entertaining if you stay friendly and relaxed.

I concur with ScottC's comment here. With all due respect vanderbilt, you could have served yourself better if you used a little honey in your response to jfe. You could have also performed a search regarding Omni and this would have revealed many issues, including the post count issue.

I have been around for a little while and I have seen jfe's welcoming hospitality to newcomers. I also am a frequent contributor to a forum that jfe moderates and can tell you that I believe him to be a great asset to FlyerTalk. jfe has been gracious to me and he is certainly welcome in my home.

There are 2 approaches a new member can take in their journey with FlyerTalk.

1) Engage topics in an abrupt and confrontational manner and sling out jabs at will.

or

2) Use restraint, think your response out before submitting the reply.

Of course I attempt to use approach #2 but I do fail from time to time. When I am wrong, I have apologized. Maybe you should think about how you want to be thought of here in FlyerTalk, and in the world. I will give you some slack as you are young and still learning how it is in this world. Take my advice, approach your differences and responses a little softer and with respect, even if the person you are responding to does not deserve it. Then again, what do I know? I have only been in customer service for the world's leading robotic system manufacturer dealing directly with people that are not happy with the product or service.

Best of luck in the future vanderbilt. :)

Vanderbilt,

Over the years, I've learned multiple things posting on Flyertalk; and one of them is to never take anything personally.

JFE wasn't responding to you as much as he was responding to the words printed in your post. Sometimes, those cute smiley faces can be misunderstood. Ok, maybe not sometimes. ;)

As for jfe, well, what can I say. :p He's a good guy. Give him a second chance.

Remember, nothing personal.

Amazing!

jfe takes a wholly unwarranted swipe at vanderbilt (along with the "rolleyes" bit, no less);

vanderbilt responds, partly in kind, and suggests jfe deal with it instead of lashing out.

jfe responds with the royal "we" saying "we will deal with it".

vanderbilt probably should have let it lie, since he's ahead on points, but decides to politely suggest that jfe doesn't seem to be (have been?) successful in his attempt and might want to try harder.

jfe and his buds launch on vanderbilt, the one who was gratuitously attacked in the first place.

This place has really changed. Vanderbilt, I apologize for the treatment you've received. You made a suggestion, and the person who is empowered to decide agreed with you. You did well. Simply ignore the spiteful ones, and continue to contribute. Most of the people appreciate it.
