He who owns the sandbox can place his sand particles where he darn well pleases is my best guess. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

IIRC Randy wanted fast feedback for a news outlet on Prez Suites. Fast accurate and up-to-date info is why folks come to him after all. And clearly he felt where he asked the question would acheive that.

As to the original matter in this thread, agree with many others there are heaps of threads on this fire tragedy in forums they do NOT belong. And NONE belong in Miles Buzz. gleff did precisely what Randy asks him to do. IMO.

I was sitting on the LAX tarmac until after midnight this morning as ATC was not letting flights up even at that hour. We all know there are delays - TV news has nothing but that for past few days - lets accept it.

If we were to see 50 threads in Community saying

"Anyone seen xxxxx?"

"Is xxxxxxx OK?"

"xxxxx lives in SoCal - are they OK"

"Fires are in SAN area is xxxxxxx alright?"

It would be a nightmare Forum. Sydney has bushfires each year that destroy the same land area and often much loss of life and property and there are never 50 threads on it.

As to Community having an ever increasing birthday/holiday thread focus I also agree with many above.

I suggest a new forum in Travel Buzz be considered titled something like:

Birthday and Holiday Best Wishes Forum.

Then religious holidays/special days of all types - and birthdays, births and anniversaries etc, can all be conveniently located in ONE place, and not among the FT get-togethers.

Folks who then find it terribly clever to bump up old Birthday threads 6 months away of an actual Birthday can amuse themselves endlessly then, and not distract others. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Let's cut gleff a little slack here - he was, after all, following both the letter and the spirit of his duties. MilesBuzz is probably the toughest forum to moderate because of the vast wealth of junk that gets dumped there by people who don't think about where their post really belongs. The comparisons to the Community forum aren't really parallel - it's not so much about whether the post matches the exact description of the forum as it is about there being a forum that is better for them.

If there is something that bothers you about an individual thread closing, etc, I think the same is true with moderators as anybody else - you will catch more with honey than vinegar http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I've seen this very presumptious statement made numerous times to back-up the posting of inappropriate threads and my reaction is always "Do they?" Just because it is YOUR first port of call when you access FT does not mean that every FT'er goes there first. I certainly don't.

Gaza,
see ozstamps reply to my post:

Looks like I'm not alone assuming the Milebuzz is the most popular forum, and of cause YMMV and everyone is entited to his own opinion.

v3 - but please see my FIRST sentence of reply. Randy can if he chooses ask about the best Avis rental car deal on Cyrpus in the Delta Forum if he chooses. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Not surew about anyone else but when I enter FT it is via the United Forum as that saves ME time. I go nowhere near Buzz. As Gaza says, not everyone does enters via Miles Buzz.

ozstamps, I did say IMHO....
The point I was trying to make was that maybe topics like fires in CA should be allowed in MBuzz - similar topics were there before changes to the topic's structure and I don't recall anyone complaining. However, if everyone involved feels so strongly about it - so be it...
As you can see from the number of my posts, I usually keep quiet.
Oh, and one more thing - one should lead by example if possible...

V3 - well I have been registered on FT for about a year more than you and confess even in 'The Buzz' days that I do not recall seeing threads about bushfires, new babies, weddings or birthdays or Kwanza or Ramadam or Easter. But as always, I could be worng. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

The moderators there have an EXTRA tough job, and IMHO do it VERY well. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif

I propose a new thread. EverythingBuzz®. All posts are duplicated in the EverythingBuzz® Thread, and it is placed at the top of each page. All important information will then be the first entered, and those too lazy, stupid, or impolite can post everything there instead of in TravelBuzz, or MileageBuzz.

I tend not to read MileageBuzz, by the way.

IMStill4Travel, you might want to back it up a few notches here. I find a person who attacks of little credibility. I also find a poster with several thousand posts more credible. The proper place to post threads like this would be at In The News: News That Affects Frequent Flyers at FT Miles since this is related to a news story.

Calling someone and idiot has no place on FlyerTalk.
