Kokonutz. Are you over thirty? I was thinking 29-32... Then again with a 70 yearold FA hitting on you I could be wrong...

I'm 22 but told I act like someone 32, so do I qualify? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Did we lock down ona a location and date? I'd be tempted to fly in and meet some other young FT'ers.

Thanks,
Richard

I vote avek can't attend the under-30 do.

He acts as constipated as a 70 year old.

Did you mean to put that "0" after the 7 there?

Welookgood,

I think your idea of an event is good.

Given the enthusiasm that it has created on both sides of the issue, I would suggest that you:
*Make a decision on a "Young FlyerTalk Get Together" for those generally between 21 and 39. That is broad enough, and there's not age verification so anyone who is "70 but feels 25" can still come.
*Hold it in New York, because it seems to have a fair number of FTers
*Let us know--post a topic or add it to one of the topics here in the Only Randy forum

Focus on this being INCLUSIVE by bringing out the younger FTers who may not normally be encouraged to show up at other events.

Most importantly, do plan something! And it seems others are very interested such as Analise, Avek, and others.

All the best.

Count me in wherever you choose... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Although NYC sounds good...

For the most part, it seems that good manners have long been disgarded. To offer an open invitation to a specified age group and thereby offend those who don't fit in that age group is tacky and absolutely rude. If one wants to throw an exclusive party, one does not offer it up on an open internet bulletin board.

Analise,

To be offended requires the participation of the person who feel offended.

Most reasonable people would likely see such an event as focused on INCLUDING people with common interests (i.e. "Young FlyerTalkers") rather than EXCLUDING others (i.e. "Not for Old Fart FlyerTalkers" meeting).

A person can chose to be understanding and recognize the inclusive intent of the organizer, or chose to presume there's some dark motive to exclude and alienate.

If, for example, there were a "FlyerTalk Amputee Chat" I would definitely feel that this did not include me. But I'd be OK with it because I'd assume the organizer wanted to bring together people with a unifying experience--rather than excluding me because I had all my limbs.

The same is true here. If this were a Under 21 meeting or a Retiree FlyerTalkers get together, I could chose to be offended because I fit in neither category, or choose to wish them the best in getting a great group together to share in their set of experiences. I'd prefer to wish them well, and wouldn't see it as "tacky" or "rude."

I do agree that while the idea of a Young FlyerTalk meeting is not objectionable, the way in which it is presented can be caustic and abrasive, such as the other "***NO DEBATE***" thread on this topic. That is just asking for a reactionary response. But in that case I would separate the idea from how it was delivered.
