as i asked questions about lh-this can be here as well,why is it that lh has more closed threads than any other forum?this belongs here,please return it.

As you explained here, you like to spend Aeroplan miles. As the discussion regarding Air Canada Aeroplan may mislead Lufthansa M&M member (there are other terms & conditions) I moved your request to the appropriate forum. Immediately after my move, you got a response.

As there is a Randy Petersen forum, I am moving this thread to this place.

argent00, I really don't understand why you want a question about redeaming Aeroplan miles in the LH forum. The people on the LH board will be glad to help you with questions about LH or Miles&More - but you can't get useful help about Aeroplan on the Lufthansa forum. Patron (correctly) moved your thread to a board where the people have knowledge about Aeroplan.

of course, others have expressed contrary views on Patron's zealous moderating of the Star Alliance forum but I think it was left that those of us who do not like is individual approach have the choice of putting up with it or deciding not to bother with this particular forum.

IMO Patron generates some rather curious lockdowns. The one discussed here above I agree was warranted, and this one below yesterday was not.

The poster went from getting some potentially useful input from his post in Star Forum, to ZERO once it was curiously drop-kicked into the UA forum where it vanished:

The Star Forum is pretty quiet, and one wonders at the need to move such things that seem quite legit posts to my eyes at least.

Just because someone chooses to use UA miles to redeem an award on say TG, SQ, LH, or OS - who often cover the exact same routes, does not to me mean that asking experienced STAR ALLIANCE travellers should be precluded - quite the opposite.

The usual canned response: "The best place for discussions regarding UA MP is the United forum" is simply not relevant in many instances such as this as these awards are not on United anyway.

I have an amazing idea ozstamps Instead of complaining in this thread and the thread in question how about helping the poster? You added to that thread yet didn't take the liberty to offer any help on his original question... I also think that it's up to the poster him/herself to discuss whether or not he/she agrees with the moderation. If we all start questioning moderation of other peoples post things will get rather boring...

Besides that, the reactions above don't seem to agree with your opionion on Patrons moderation. Perhaps an email to either Patron or Randy would be better here???

I think you will find you are incorrect there. The only other person to comment on the Star Alliance forum I clearly posted about agreed with me it seems. It was in fact the post before mine.

And finally Scott, as a-moderator-in-waiting .... lets ask the real pertinent question. Would YOU have moved that thread to UA or left it in Star? What would have been YOUR course of action there? Enquiring minds wish to know.

Point well taken Oz, sorry for my over the top reply. I personally wouldn't have moved it, low traffic boards like star only need moderation when things in the content get out of hand imho. But each moderator is entitled to his or her own opinion.

I still am at a loss to understand this prevailing (hypothetical) scenario. A British Midland Airlines flyer posts in the Star Alliance Forum that he wants to redeem a Europe->Asia Award in Business Class and asks experienced FT'ers whether he is best advised to choose TG, SQ, OS, SAS or LH, all of whom fly there.

Patron's habitual style on the STAR forum would seem to be to close the thread and move it to British Midland Forum, arguing if you are using BMI miles - then go there and ask your questions.

That seems bizarre policy to me as that airline does not fly to Asia and hence a lot of those on that board may also seldom fly to Asia. But many on the STAR boards know the others carriers backwards, and the plusses and minuses and could give VALUABLE input, not found on BD Board.

I agree with you Scott that on the boards with light traffic, that Moderation possibly is best kept for grossly off-topic threads or bad flaming etc. Topics of little interest or a little off-topic generally die a natural death.

The smaller forums often build a certain cameraderie among regulars. For example, this current one in the Qantas Forum about what red wine to buy as a gift for a friend in the USA has already 30 posts. It has nothing WHATEVER to do with QF, and one feels sure if posted in UA, DL or AA etc would have seen it rapidly moved to Travel Buzz or Dining Buzz - or even OMNI which has heaps of wine threads lately.

Not so - in the QF forum the Moderator offers his own wine suggestion, so things work differently in smaller Forums very often.

I'd just enjoy seeing a little less zealous policing in Star Forum re the type of examples outlined above. I have asked such questions via threads over the years pre-Moderation and received superb input, and hope others might enjoy the same valuable info. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I realise Moderating is subjective, and often thankless, and I do enjoy the Star Forum. I hope Patron takes these on board as the (hopefully) contructive thoughts of just one reader. I recall in February there were six closed threads in the page 1 posts alone, for being "off-topic", so things have definitely settled down more into a groove. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Seems ok, up to a point - if using BMI miles, then it makes sense to ask the question in the BMI forum, since it is the BMI experts who know the ins and outs of BMI's rules.

But, as I said, only up to a point. There are times where the expertise of members of affiliated programs is warranted.

And in an "Alliance" thread (Star, OneWorld, etc) I would think that nothing is OFF-topic, IF it is related to one of the carriers in that alliance.

I agree with you though that in the smaller forums, willyroo's famous saying, "moderation in moderation" should be an integral part of controlling the forum.

Heck, if the QF forum was to be improperly moderated, nothing would be posted, we always seem to degenerate to the best beer or whatever.
