Jon,

I brought this back to the top for one reason only.

I felt that Randy was hoping that by ignoring it, it would go away.

I wanted Randy to know that some (probably most) of us do not consider this case closed.

I don't consider this case closed either.

My suggestion seems to have provoked more of a reaction than I expected.

As a person who has never had multiple personalities on this board - I have trouble keeping one together - I'm still suprised by what has happened.

Personally, I emailed Randy some weeks ago - and am not to emotional about a reply he's a busy man - suggesting that some serious mopping up of names needed to go on. So far the specific person I complained about is still posting under the same name, so perhaps we'll just have to be more patient.

This all is very interesting but why are we ignoring the appearance of new multiple handles?? Just have a look under airlines starting with "P" and "T"!! Some may think it's funny but is it really? Multiple handles are still multiple handles even if used to click up postings.

Randy Petersen Jan 11, 2001 9:34 am

CameraGuy - I feel you might be wrong in your assumption of why the multiple handles haven't been completely cleaned up. I have a very busy slate of projects on my lap right now and when a few things fall into place, I'll return to that project of cleaning up muiltiple handles. Simply try and remember one thing - I didn't personally create the problem, select members of this board did. But one thing seems for sure, I have been assigned to clean it up.

But, if you will be so kind as to send me one managing editor, two associate editors, one writer and one researcher (the number of employees i have lost in the last two months), I can then get back to this multiple handle issue. But since my magazine must go on (it's the magazine that I make my money from so i can fund pro-bono efforts like FlyerTalk) and I'm filling in for all these five former employees, it's a little tough. But then again you wouldn't have known that.

As Paul Harvey would say - now you know the rest of the story. Of course it would all be much easier if members of this community - including very respecdtable ones - hadn't got into multiple handles to begin with.

Thank you Randy for your comments. I know how busy you are and I, for one, very much appreciate your munificence in providing us this amazing forum.

I know that for me, and for many other Flyer Talk friends, Flyer Talk has become an important part of our real life, as well as a highly educational slice of cyberspace.

I sincerely apologize for anything I have done which might have contributed to the cyber-imbroglios which have heretofore existed on the boards. I assure you that I will conscientiously avoid any future dubious behavior. (Except for teasing Rudi, of course.)

I truly do believe that all of us on board are mature and generous enough to make certain that in the future, we conduct ourselves in a civil and enabling manner on line. We most assuredly do not wish to repay your generosity in providing us this space with petty confrontations that cause you frustration and waste your time.

If there is ever anything more that I can do to assist you in any way, please do not hestitate to ask.

doc Jan 11, 2001 11:10 am

Thanks once again, Randy! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Are you unofficially hanging out the "Help Wanted" sign? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

"...I truly do believe that all of us on board are mature and generous enough to make certain that in the future, we conduct ourselves in a civil and enabling manner on line. We most assuredly do not wish to repay your generosity in providing us this space with petty confrontations that cause you frustration and waste your time..."

Absolutely 100% agreed! Boldface added for emphasis to ALL! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

In addition to ".....(FILL IN BLANK)" there are countless others who have/had multiple undisclosed identities used as "attack handles" yet fess up & be claimed! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

From among the many, how about these?

cod
quack
Dr Pfp
Doctor PfP
Reverend PfP
Miss PfP
Karl Stevens

And it goes on, and on, and on...ad naseum!

Are these handles and their posts acceptable? Is the "intent" here acceptable? Is it okay that they sometimes attacked innocent people? That they falsely accused others? Are they each representative of the "good spirit" of the board?

I think not, as I'd stated previously!
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/003825.html

Let's forget each of these and ALL the others? Or are they just the next distraction?

And how about FT'ers who posted in favor of these "identities?" And the FT'ers who stood idly by and did nothing but laugh and cared little as they watched "civility" become a relic of the past? How far will we all go with this? Really? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif

And FAR more importantly, will a lasting peace EVER come to FT ?

The execution of ones' apology was NOT perfect, IMHO, & not even close in the eyes of some. They'd admit that themself! So what? They stepped forward and essentially admitted to multiple handles & that it was wrong & that they're sorry! More than some others! And no doubt very humbling & difficult to do!

How contrite must one actually be? I don't know! How will we each ever know what's in ones heart and mind? Shall we resort to sworn statements or lie detector tests? Or both? What?

Even if we each are unwilling to remove the plank from our own eye, it should be incumbent upon each of us individually at some point to take an apology offered for whatever it's worth to each of us and just move on for the collective good!

Let's ALL now please look at the "bigger" picture here, kindly give some consideration to moving ahead and bury the hatchet forever! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

doc, did you even READ what Randy wrote? He said he's busy, he'll look further into the problem when he can. If you truly have no patience, as your post (and the multiple previous posts you have on the subject) suggest, perhaps you should send Mr. Peterson a substantial check so he can afford to administer this FREE board rather than attend to his PAYING job.

Until then, I say:

I do, however, agree with doc's message that something does need to be done to correct this situation. Thank you Randy, for your continuing support of this board, this definatly is an issue that needs to be addressed in its completeness, but please attend to your business and personal matters first, and to reiterate Punki,

If there is ever anything more that I can do to assist you in any way, please do not hestitate to ask.

Doc's words speak for themselves and describe what kind of a person he is - no need for this "backward doc" to add any more!

markbach-

Thanks! Yes, I naturally did read it - and understood it as well. I'm personally waiting for something from Randy for quite some time now, but would NEVER think of bothering him about it, since I know how very busy he is and has been! I actually have many weaknesses, but reading has never been one of them - at least up to now! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

And we could all be a bit more patient it seems! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

May I also please quote "Punki" from the very same thread?

"...When I encounter a situation which causes me concern, I try to avoid jumping to any conclusions whatsoever and, instead, attempt to gently and privately approach the person and or persons involved and share my concerns with them. Most often I find that the root of the problem was not their intent, but my misinterpretation..."

Perhaps you could REread my post above and give it some additional thought!

The "time's a wastin'" comment above refers to the line above "Let's ALL now please look at the 'bigger' picture here, kindly give some consideration to moving ahead and bury the hatchet forever!" and our seemingly overwhelming inclination to be all wastin' OUR time unnecessarily criticizing and pointing fingers at each other, rather than simply pursuing miles and points. Ideally, we should have easily and collectively been able to handle this on our own, without taking ANY of Randy's resources! It was not directed at Randy at all! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm sure Randy understands my comment very well and now I sincerely hope that you and everyone else also does too! If not, please feel free to email me if necessary! And Randy will surely correct me if I'm wrong! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Of course, in my effort to explain, it seems that I unfortunately was not clear enough and may well have said far too much in trying. Please accept my apologiy for being unnecessarily confusing! Sorry! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Again, let's ALL please look now at the "bigger" picture here, kindly give some serious consideration to moving ahead and FINALLY bury the hatchet forever for the sake of us all!

Cheers to ALL!

Doc, you cannot offer a consoling statement without mentioning you?

Absolutely no one has been more offended by the general "tone" or "tenor" of this board sometimes, and too often of late, than I! Just check out the threads to view the attacks!

I would also like a word with you, cod, when you have a moment...

I hope that no-accounts (should) will be cancelled at all anymore.
