A worthwhile addition

Randy

Seems like adding the specific link for each airline, rental car, hotel etc to the matching category would be a great help.

Click on Delta to see the posts and there would be the Delta site link if I wanted to use it. Click on Avis, the same thing...etc.
This would serve at least two use times. One when I was reviewing the comments and someone suggested I could get points, information or ... at the site, then I would back up a page and click on the link.

Secondly, I would be able to delete all those links from my "favorites" and just use flyer talk.

Oh, yes it would also save me stumbling around a search engine to find the home page address for all those lesser used sites.

Sound too good to have missed all this time??

I'll second the motion! I like the idea, especially if the link will open in a separate window.

Randy:

I have been active on this board for a long time.

I posted this to you, because I believe that it would enhance many users experience on this board and provide a potential increase in hits for your site. I know it would help me.

The fact that only two others (small number, great quality) chimed in, I guess it is not the great idea that I thought it was.

What I cannot understand is the absence of any comment or e-mail reply to this from you or your staff. I find this very rude. If this is too much trouble, then why have this category at all?? It doesn't get much play.

While I don't, obviously, speak for Randy, my guess is that he's waiting for possible additional feedback and he'll respond in due time.

So is IMpatience!

Ranles,

I did not reply to your post because I thought it was a great idea and I had nothing to add.

Your post was a note to Randy Peterson and did not request any other comments.

I believe it is a great idea and second, third, fourth or whatever your suggestion.

If it takes volume of posts before Randy will respond, I hope everyone will post their support of this (if they agree with it).

Just wondering why this was not posted in the "Flyer Talk Suggestions".
I have posted there in the past and received responses from the technical staff and other members of the community. The responses generally would cover the feasability of the suggestion.
I find the idea ok personally but as has been posted to some of my suggestions - some of these ideas really mess up the UBB board - by slowing it down even more for those who may have a slow connection.

Yes, FT Suggestions would be the right place to offer suggestions like this.

Personally for me, I would not use the links since I already have the appropriate airlines/hotel/car web sites bookmarked, and for most of them I know the URLs. But the suggestion is good nonetheless, especially if also it can be accompanied by an entry in the FAQ which asks users to use these links to access information which is readily available at those web sites. So for example instead of asking in FT what the blackout dates are for United airlines, use the link to obtain the information from the United web site.

Randy has been really bad about responding to threads in this forum. I understand he's a very busy guy, but it takes less than 5 minutes a day to read this forum. Seems like at least an acknowledgement of this thread (not to mention the "Randy, it's time to break your silence" thread) would be appropriate.

Acknowledge the thread I do. Yes, busy in more ways than you might imagine. But, I think that the idea is a valid one, similar to the way we list the links to the Web sites on our Programs and Partners section of InsideFlyer. While not fully knowing the answer, I will assume it's more of a programming problem than anything. We are in beta test of a new board right now that is written in PHP, a programming code that our tech staff is very familair with. This new board is also MySQL database driven, which are all much different than the software of the board we're currently using. It is my hope that we'll find out answers to this and much more as we beta test the new board and then it will certainly not be a problem in programming. As you might guess, to custom program a board that needs the high end performance that this one does is not an easy task, takes a little while and can get very expensive.....but, it's a very good idea and one that I'll ask the guys about.

And I am sorry about not getting to this sooner. My plate has been extremely full the last few months and about the only time i can find to get up here is when one of you directly contact me with a link. Really, sometimes that's better, though the public forum is still acceptable.

Answer back to you shortly.
