Cheapest Place to Originate DONE

I guess currency fluctuations have whipsawed the pricing. WAW now about $US1,000.00 more for DONE04 than it was a few months back; LON not too much more.

I am currently traveling on DONE04 ex-CAI, and had intended to go to WAW in April, 2010 at the conclusion of my current trip to originate my next RTW. Now CAI not so bad, within few hundred dollars.

Suggestions/thoughts for cheapest/best place now to originate DONE04?

For USD people it looks like Sweden has re-taken the lead from Poland for the time being - a few dollars cheaper. Fortunately both benefit from TAL Aviation, AA's excellent GSA, having local offices, so one can avoid BA fuel fines.

I wouldn't originate in the UK because of routing restrictions that would follow (re transiting LHR down the road.)

My current list (of locations with AA offices)

South Africa  6,075
Pakistan      6,412
Saudi Arabia  6,824
Sweden              6,925
Poland              6,999
Israel              7,200
Lebanon              7,200
Taiwan              7,264
Egypt              7,349

I have a version of the WearyBizTrvlr spreadsheet that I keep roughly updated

Thanks for response, people. MOA, you're great. Wish I had that spreadsheet. I have very rough one that I have to manually update, but only had 5 countries in it.

Thanks again.

Wow! Surprised to see that South Korea is completely out of there nowadays (~US$8,300 at time of this posting)

I'm sure there's no AA office in Amman, but a DONE3 ex-Jordan is JOD 4,400, or about US$ 6,247. And Jordan has the least expensive AONE3 fare I've found at JOD 6,200, or about US$ 8,803.

At least Jordan has good OW access, what with RJ.......

Am I Missing Something / AA Ticketing Office

Am I missing something? I thought RTW's could now be ticketed online with the planning tool. And since they are electronic, why do you need a ticket office?

christep Aug 9, 2009 7:59 am

Because with the online tool you can't choose the issuing airline, so if the online tool's chosen airline isn't AA you need to go through a GSA or TA in order to get the cheaper AA proices.

What are RJ's taxes like if they were to ticket?

And AA doesn't serve either WAW or ARN, thus (most likely) you'd be looking at BA as the issuing airline (just guessing, but most folks would be taking WAW/ARN-LHR as their first leg) thus ensuring BA fuel charges.

IIRC AA does all of RJ's xONEx online issuing for them.

More's the pity that L class segments on RJ have no value in crediting to the AA program :(

A reminder you can use codeshares (where available) in order to get the online RTW booking tool to use a cheaper airline for ticketing.

Eg AA6377 WAW-LHR (operated by BA) connecting to an AA trans-atlantic flight, or AA6525 ARN-LHR connecting to an AA trans-atlantic flight.

Does anyone know where I can get an up to date (or nearly up to date) OW RTW fare data in machine readable format or an API so that I can download the fare data into Excel on regular basis.

Thanks,

Right, if your itinerary connects to a TATL flight. Of course IB and AY also fly to both WAW and ARN. Not sure how AY's fuel fines would be - do you recall if AY does its own ticketing with the online tool? I seem to recall IB doesn't do its own either.

Namibia is also a cheap place to originate.
