That was MEL-HKG-LHR, on a temporary basis.

Apologies - my mistake - I was misremembering that they had withdrawn F and were selling 3-class planes as 2-class. That's actually HKG-LHR I think.

QF29 and QF30 (MEL-HKG-LHR vv) have lost First class temporarily (?), not QF127 & QF128 (SYD-HKG vv).

No, QF127 has lost F class on some days - especially Saturday with a sub to n A333.

Yeah tried that -- no flights.

Ready to ticket DONE5 at LHR

I have finalized my DONE5 for next year and will ticket at LHR on Sept 4.

My routing, with planned stops, is LHR-DXB-AMM-JFK(x)-SCL-IPC-SCL(x)-LAX-HKG-SIN-NRT(x)-BKK-NRT(x)-PER-DRW-SYD-LHR. I used the OW online planner and it priced out with BA at 5249 + 634 = 5883 GBP pp. However, I booked with AA RTW office. Their pp price is 5754.10 GBP + $30. The net saving pp is ~ 100 GBP and they are easier to deal with.

This routing visits or revisits places we want to see and yields ~ 94335 points. This, when combined with other travel, will once again let my wife and I achieve EXP. :)

Volunteers needed

I have been working on an Excel spreadsheet to analyze xONEx fares. I'm at the point at which I need 2-3 volunteers to take a look at it and see if it useful for anyone other than me (and make sure it works for others).

At this point the Spreadsheet has VBA macros and is in Excel 2007 format (.xlsm extension), it also uses Web Queries. The macros are only need to start an update of the fares (if everything works and this is an issue, I could remove the need for VBA macros).

Some of the features are:
  • Ability to sort and filter by fare and/or country of origin
  • Highlighting of ten best fares within a fare type (xONEx)
  • Automatic comparison of fares from chosen country of origin to best available fare at the chosen fare type
  • Automatic comparison of fares in different classes of service for country of origin
  • By running a macro, the ability to update all fares (over 125 countries) or fares from a single country (using OneWorld.com). Update of each country fares takes 3-15 seconds, so updating all fares can take a very long time.
  • Choice of "home" currency
  • Automatic update of exchange rates every time the file is opened (using CoinMill.com)
  • Ability to override exchange rates

At this point there is no error catching code for Web Queries failure.

If you are interested in giving this spreadsheet a try and provide me with feedback, please PM me with your email.

Thanks in advance,

If you don't need to stop in LA and can do Australia before Asia then you can skip North America and save a continent altogether. Mind you, it's about 10,000 miles less so maybe not on the table for that reason also?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I do want to visit LAX and also get all the required points.

A reminder you can use codeshares (where available) in order to get the online RTW booking tool to use a cheaper airline for ticketing.

Eg AA6377 WAW-LHR (operated by BA) connecting to an AA trans-atlantic flight, or AA6525 ARN-LHR connecting to an AA trans-atlantic flight.

Right, if your itinerary connects to a TATL flight.

At least in some cases, you have to connect to an AA TATL flight in order to book the AA codeshare. I've gotten hit by this (on regular fares, not xONEx) because I hate morning flights, and so usually do an overnight at LHR to be able to fly xxx-LHR-LAX without xxx-LHR being early AM. The overnight makes it impossible to book xxx-LHR as an AA codeshare.
