AA - UAE's Etihad sign code-share.

American Airlines and the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, Etihad Airways, said in a statement Thursday they have agreed to share codes, enabling a customer transferring between the two airlines to purchase a single ticket for the whole trip. Etihad is "keen to grow further" in the U.S., the Middle Eastern airline's chief executive, James Hogan, said. The accord, subject to regulatory clearance, should come into effect as Etihad begins service to Chicago at the beginning of September. re: Market Watch

Add to this that QF also codeshare with EY, and it looks like EY is forging a number of alliances with OW carriers.

Just wondering whther or not EY would be a useful addition to OW, and how that would impact upon RJ?

Cool. First step towards full OW membership, and inclusion in xONEx fares.

The new service to Chicago will be interesting for Etihad.. Hopefully this will complement, not compete, with Royal Jordanian.

I am sure they will compliment each other. We already have Etihad, Qatar, Emirates and Royal Jordanian all departing within the same hour at JFK and the passenger numbers are pretty good. Of course that has nothing to do with how much money each makes on the route.

I think GF has a better chance at 1W.

It would really surprise me if EY decided to join an alliance. TBH, I am quite shocked they have signed this deal with AA- imagine Arabs/Pakistanis/etc off EY connecting to a longish domestic flight on AA and being told that they need to pay in dollars with a credit card for their ham sandwich.

Does this mean that pax can earn AA miles on Etihad flights? And if so, has that partnership begun now? I know Etihad doesnt start flying to Chicago until September, but was hoping the AAdvantage mileage earning would begin sooner.

Are there any US or European FF programs that can earn miles with Etihad besides SN Brussels?

I don't know which question you were answering with "I don't think so." But, yes, SkyTeam777, the codeshare means you will be able to earn AA miles on Etihad flights. All AA-coded flights can earn miles, regardless of the carrier.

"Under the new arrangement, American Airlines will place its 'AA' code on services operated by Etihad Airways between New York (JFK), Chicago (ORD), Paris (CDG), Dublin, Frankfurt, Manchester and Milan (MXP) to and from Abu Dhabi."

Thanks...but I think I will barely miss it. My flight is in August, and this appears to start in September unless Im misunderstanding it.
