Will AA reissue a DONE4 that removes NA & all the AA segments
I have a DONE4, issued by AA Capetown. It was Africa-Europe-NA-Aust.
I am currently in Europe and it now looks as if I will need to travel to South America, rather than North America. I could add South America and make it a DONE5, but I would rather not do that because of the extra cost of the DONE5 I have 2 questions: 1. Are AA likely to allow me to change the segments & reissue the tickets, if it involves travelling Europe-South America-Aust, where there are no AA segments or codeshares (that I know of) that I can use. 2. If they will, I assume that my fuel surcharges will then be less, as AA generally only charge for AA segments across Atlantic/Pacific. Will they refund any of these? Thanks in advance |

So be prepared for a healthy discussion after which you should get what you want. |
AA have happily ticketed and then reissued my tickets without any international segments, so that isn't an issue. Without any AA at all might be, but once they've issued the ticket they can't really refuse to reissue it within the rules.

I can only speak from my only experience. I have never had any difficulty getting the airline I wanted to issue or reissue a OWE ticket. Sample size perhaps 40 instances.

There is no issue removing all AA sectors. You can even get AA to issue OW ATW tickets with no AA sectors in the 1st place and have done that numerous times

Maybe my experience is non-representative, but in past 10 years or so I've never had a ticketing problem with AA that wasn't ultimately resolved favorably. Forewarned is forearmed: you must be prepared to have to call several times, in search of the most experienced, helpful agent.
As noted in the sticky above, the RTW desk in the US is: 1-800-247-3247 Let us know how you make out. |
Thanks for all your replies. I'll post how i go. Anyone willing to speculate on what happens to the fuel surcharges, if they reissue?

i was told by a few people that AA's GSA in South Africa (Mindpearl) are quite strict regarding their own imposed rule on the AA Long Haul sectors.
For people who said AA is ok and they never encountered problems. Where did u get your tickets from? From South Africa? |

In my case all the initial setup and the changes were arranged via the AA RTW desk. The initial issue was on paper from AA's GSA in MNL, and the reissue (as an e-ticket) via AA's GSA in HK (they needed to retrieve the paper tickets). |

I also never had this problem up until this year when AA Australia refused to ticket a DONE4 without AA longhaul segments.

Did you try to get them to do all the work or did you get it all set up through the AA RTW desk and then just need AA Australia to issue it?
