xONEx rescheduling a missed segment *after* missing the segment?

If on an xONEx you nest another r/t itin on a non-OW airline, what happens if you misconnect and miss your xONEx segment?

Considering an AKL//PPT nested ticket on NZ with onward QF segment for AKL-ZQN. The problem is, if the NZ flight PPT-AKL is running late, I probably wouldn't find out until about 2am at PPT airport. It might be a little late to make a change to the xONEx. Or, let's say the delay is on the tarmac, so no chance to call anyone to make a change.

First of all, if I misconnect I've flat out missed the flight. On normal (non-RTW) tickets if you miss a segment it is common for the airline to just cancel all the remainder of the ticket. This wouldn't happen on an RTW ticket, right? Or, even if not cancelled, I wouldn't loose my remaining bookings and have to re-book (and risk no A-bucket or D-bucket availability), right?

I figure the two options I would have is to re-book on the next day's AKL-ZQN (it's only offered 1x day). Or, if I don't want to wait, I would seek to have AKL-ZQN re-booked as a surface segment and just buy a o/w NZ AKL-ZQN ticket out of pocket and pickup the xONEx in ZQN.

So...
1. Are there technical or logistical problems with trying to make changes to a segment after the segment has flown?
2. Is there a fee? The AA rules linked to on the sticky found here does not say anything. But, the CX rules linked to on the sticky found here mention "Changes After Departure... Permitted without charge but if no show, rebooking at a charge USD125." So is AA or CX right?

When was you xONEx booked?

"no show, rebooking at a charge USD125" is a recent rule change and may not apply to your ticket.

I'm not so sure that they won't cancel the rest of your booking. I once missed a flight as part of a LONE4 due to a misunderstanding following a change of date (the QF agent I spoke to booked me on the wrong date).

The flight missed was an AA service from ELP to ORD and I then had further flights to BOS//DCA-MIA-NAS-LHR-MXP, all on AA except for the last two segments on BA.

AA canceled my ORD-BOS & DCA-MIA flights following the missed segment. The BA segments were untouched, though, as was the MIA-NAS on AEagle.

I tried to find out what actually happened but with no success... Nevertheless AA rebooked me on the next available services at no extra charge (with an additional change in YYZ on the ORD-BOS run)

Thanks for the replies... I'm still learning all the xONEx rules.

Can I ask the opposite question...

To play it safe let's say I book AKL-ZQN as a surface sector and then purchase a fully-refundable NZ ticket for AKL-ZQN. If I show up to AKL on time, clear C&I and manage to make it to the domestic terminal by, let's say 9am, could I change my xONEx ALK-ZQN from a service sector to the actual flight, if there is availability? Keep in mind, this would be just 1 hour before the scheduled flight. Any xONEx rules about making changes at least X hours before a flight?

You would have to pay the USD125 change fee which would probably not be much cheaper than taking the NZ flight. I would doubt that they would have time to reissue the ticket in time for you to get on the flight

Based on my experiences ticketing at AKL by QF that would not be enough time for your xONEx to be reissued. QF might be willing to process it some other way.

With fees to reissue, service fees (from QF to reticket and from NZ to refund even a fully flexible fare) you are probably better off financially booking a cheap NZ fare AKL-(CHC-)ZQN on a flight with a minimum 2:30 connection.
