Owerview of Oneworld Sapphire Status

Unfortunately much later than expected, I have finally finished the Overview of the oneworld Sapphire status.

I have uploaded the chart on my homepage (Click here).

I have used the same layout for this chart I have used also for the Emerald Overview (FT Thread).

If you have any suggestion or if you find anything wrong, feel free to post is. I am again looking especially for data on Malev and Royal Jordanian, since the information available on their webpages are not the most informative ones.

But any form of feedback is highly appreciated since I am only Blue with BA.

I am also open for suggestion of points I should change or highlight in the overview.

I hope to finish the overview of Ruby in a couple of days.

Hi FLYGVA,

Great work following up on Sapphire.

For JMB please find below some comments:

Upgrade international : 3 SWU
Lounge access : Y (no transferable coupons initially provided but are available for 4k mls / 2 coupons)
Validity of points : 36 months
Others : can apply for JGC membership

KIXman, thanks for the feedback. I have updated the chart and also mentioned the Platinum challenge for AA

FLYGVA, :) ^ for your initiative, helpfulness and generosity.

For CX Gold, I would also add among the 'benefits':
  • Ability to upgrade with miles on BA and AA
  • Higher op-up chances on CX than non-CX Emeralds*
  • Personal greeting and attention many times from the IFS on CX flights
*This is based on two incidents when BA Golds went through the boarding gates without being op-upped, and I was, as a CX Gold.

Nice work FLYGVA,

Just one thing I noted on the QF section, The Qantas Club 'open door' policy only applies to QF Platinum (OW Emerald) card holders. QF Gold (OW Sapphire) do need to be flying to access domestic Qantas Clubs.

Otherwise it's a really handy reference, thanks for putting the time into making it happen.

Cheers,
inasmuchas

FLYGVA - top effort mate, cheers! :)

Just a correction to the AA status bonus. Apart from flights on BA, flights on the following carriers will similarly not accrue the 100% status bonus:
- Japan Airlines
- Malev

I also got the personal greeting on Cathay flights as an AA elite member (even when traveling as OW SPH). For all my nitpicking, Cathay seems to take their OW commitments more seriously, going above and beyond the published rules for OW elites, than QF or BA. ^

It's a shame that 3 (AA, BA, QF) out of the original 5 (+ CX & CP(now dead)) OW members really don't seem to care that much about their alliance these days. :(

Please see below:

Should be CX and not CA on the Cathay Pacific section.

Iberia's 6200 points probably has a different acquire time frame? Sorry I don't know the real value, but I don't think that looks right.

Domestic Qantas Club is only open door for Platinum (Emerald) NOT Gold (Sapphire).

JMB update

Some updates for JAL Mileage Bank that will become effective come Apr.2009.
A big devaluation from 2008 and even more complexity!:td:

Upgrade domestic / continental / international (one way / one class)

JMB Sapphire / JGC Sapphire
20 upgrade points + 2 upgrade points per 10K fly on points (FOP) OR 10 flights after qualification

*Upgrade points required for:
domestic : 2 points
international : 5 to 12 points depending on class and route

FLYGVA Jan 11, 2009 8:13 am

I have updated the overview.

Since JAL is again very complicated, if might be worth if someone with a deeper knowledge of the programm may doublecheck it.

Just out of curiosity, what happens, if you reach during a year the next membership level? I assume, you will only get the FOP off the highest level reached?

FLYGVA Feb 13, 2010 7:16 am

I have updated the thread with Mexicana and also the news in the AY program (sorry for the delay).

I did not find anything about higher baggage allowances for MX elites like other ow airlines offer for their own elites. And possible hidden benefits for the mid tier are a bit difficult to find :D - if there are any.

As everytime, you input is much appreciated, esp. since it took me a bit longer than expected (it was scheduled for November 2009).

Of course, a look at the other program is also much appreciated.

Thanks
