With a bit of creativity, I think you could get to 80,000 miles or very close to it.

I'd think that 70,000 would be closer to the max. Something like:

3: MCT-LHR: 2nd of 4 (Europe)
4: LHR-NBO: intercontinental

12: SCL-CCS: 1st of 4 (South America)
13: CCS-SCL: 2nd of 4 (South America)
14: SCL-GRU: 3rd of 4 (South America)
15: GRU-NRT: intercontinental
16: NRT-SYD: intercontinental

But perhaps with a little more creativity than I have got Darren could be closer to the mark:

2: LHR-MEL: intercontinental
3: MEL-NRT: 1st of 1 (intercontinental entry to Asia without immediate transit & departure)

8: NRT-GRU: intercontinental

Have the last leg end in DAR and you're at 77505.

EDIT: According to the Great Circle Mapper its only 77422. It seems the Mileage Monkey is off on some of its distances.

3544quebec's theoretically interesting route can be further tweaked because DFW-SFO-LHR is 356 miles further than DFW-MEX-LHR, getting to 77849 on Mileage Monkey. http://slfft.allhyper.com/0.95/award...hr-mct-lhr-dar

And serfty's xONE3 can be improved a little by replacing DFW-SEA-ORD-AMM with DFW-SFO-JFK-AMM which is 173 miles longer.

Better again as an xONE3 is to remove some of the short Europe segments and add another North American segment back. For example, http://slfft.allhyper.com/0.95/award...rt-del-nrt-cgk which Mileage Monkey has at 55140 miles.

And again, modifying serfty's basic idea: as an xONE3, http://slfft.allhyper.com/0.95/award...rt-del-nrt-cgk is 56201 miles.

And a little more tweaking: if you start the previous itinerary in, eg, SJO, then you can eke another 86 miles out by replacing a CGK turn with a DEL turn out of NRT: http://slfft.allhyper.com/0.95/award...gk-nrt-lax-sjo is 56287 miles.

Here's the 56287 mile xONE3:
Code:

Origin: SJO (cr)
1: SJO-LAX: 1st of 6 (North America)
2: LAX-SJU: 1st of 1 (North America Transcon)
*2: LAX-SJU: 2nd of 6 (North America)
3: SJU-DFW: 3rd of 6 (North America)
4: DFW-ANC: 4th of 6 (North America)
5: ANC-DFW: 5th of 6 (North America)
6: DFW-LHR: intercontinental
7: LHR-MCT: 1st of 4 (Europe)
8: MCT-LHR: 2nd of 4 (Europe)
9: LHR-FCO: 3rd of 4 (Europe)
10: FCO-NRT: 1st of 1 (intercontinental entry to Asia without immediate transit & departure)
11: NRT-DEL: 1st of 4 (Asia)
12: DEL-NRT: 2nd of 4 (Asia)
13: NRT-DEL: 3rd of 4 (Asia)
14: DEL-NRT: 4th of 4 (Asia)
15: NRT-LAX: 1st of 1 (intercontinental entry to North America without immediate transit & departure)
16: LAX-SJO: 6th of 6 (North America)
Congratulations!! Valid itinerary!!! - (56287 miles)

and the 77849 mile xONE6:
Code:

Origin: MRU (mu)
1: MRU-LHR: intercontinental
2: LHR-MEL: intercontinental
3: MEL-NRT: 1st of 1 (intercontinental entry to Asia without immediate transit & departure)
4: NRT-DEL: 1st of 4 (Asia)
5: DEL-NRT: 2nd of 4 (Asia)
6: NRT-DEL: 3rd of 4 (Asia)
7: DEL-NRT: 4th of 4 (Asia)
8: NRT-GRU: intercontinental
9: GRU-DFW: 1st of 1 (intercontinental entry to North America without immediate transit & departure)
10: DFW-ANC: 1st of 6 (North America)
11: ANC-DFW: 2nd of 6 (North America)
12: DFW-SFO: 3rd of 6 (North America)
13: SFO-LHR: intercontinental
14: LHR-MCT: 1st of 4 (Europe)
15: MCT-LHR: 2nd of 4 (Europe)
16: LHR-DAR: intercontinental
Congratulations!! Valid itinerary!!! - (77849 miles)

Here's a 56752 mile xONE3 originating HKG:
http://slfft.allhyper.com/0.95/award...el-nrt-del-hkg.
Same as the previous one, actually, just observing that DEL-HKG-LAX is further than DEL-NRT-LAX.

3544quebec Jun 4, 2008 5:05 pm

Well done yellow77.....and I'll send you some of my medication;)

yellow77 Jun 4, 2008 5:55 pm

Thanks. ;)

By the way, there are plenty of one-stop direct LAX-SJU-LAX on the timetable, but if you don't like them or think they're going to go away, the direct LAX-SJO (via MIA) allows almost as many miles (about 30 fewer at 56723) using the insane routing HKG-LAX-SJO-LAX-SJO-LAX-SJO-LAX-LHR-MCT-LHR-FCO-NRT-DEL-NRT-DEL-HKG
Because of the six stops in MIA and the two in AUH, the actual flying distance here is 61K miles and there are actually 24 takeoffs and touchdowns.

OK, enough.

This will get you QF WP+PG with a DONE4 starting in Oz.

Less than 60k miles though, so it's a bit weak on the points side.

Best I can do with a 16 segment DONE6 with purchasing 2 extra segments in ASIA which I think is within the rules.

16 segment path: 79370 mi

MRU 6068 mi
LHR 10503 mi
MEL 5060 mi
NRT 3679 mi
DEL 3679 mi
NRT 3679 mi
DEL 3679 mi
NRT 3679 mi
DEL 3679 mi
NRT 11489 mi
GRU 4745 mi
JFK 2475 mi
LAX 5456 mi
LHR 3629 mi
MCT 3629 mi
LHR 4243 mi
NB0

Darren Jun 5, 2008 6:18 am

All of this is academic as anyone who flies any of these routes should have their head examined, but I am not sure it's possible to break 80k without doing something like purchasing segments, but you can come close. With purchasing extra segments, you can break 80k.
