High Taxes transiting LHR

Priced an AONE4 from JNB. The taxes on the ticket were almost $1500 US.
vs 700 US on a Star One that had one London transit.

My AONE4: JNB-HKG-ICN-HKG-SFO-LHR-MAD-LPA-GROUND TRANSIT-LHR-MRU-JNB.

Any advice, help, commnets?

Viajero Apr 20, 2008 1:47 pm

Your OWE itinerary has two APD, not one, and we don't know what the fuel surcharges were until you tell us what airline you priced the OWE with. Still, $1500 sounds too high... maybe it includes a service charge?

.Hi Viajero!

I view all your posts with interest!

I am ticketing with CX in JNB. Thy charge 250 ZAR ticking fee.
I do not have the final numbers but Excise taxes from South Africa are high.

This week also saw a 200 price increase to SQ RTW for fuel tax...

I will let you know as soon as I ticket.

I found that when I dropped LRW from the Star one taxes dropped

If you are able to have this ticketed by AA ex-CPT I think you will find the total for taxes, fees and surcharges a great deal lower than $1500.

Try grounding to Paris, Brussels or somewhere else close to London. You have plenty of segments available and you shouldn't be hit with the obscene taxes with the connection. If your first LHR is a stopover, a third or more of your taxes and fees are probably caused by London alone.

On second reading I now see that SFO-LHR-MAD-LPA//XXX-xLHR-MRU would indeed save one APD.

$1500 - Is that taxes + surcharges as mentioned by Viajero?

OPPS I made a mistake SORRY ALL

The taxes charged were 9269 ZAR... :(

I used the wrong currency calculator so taxes acording to AMEX are: 1243.70 USD.

Still seems high.

Ask CX to give you a fare calculation breakdown print out to deteremine where the excess is.

My 16 segment DONE5 issued by AA last month, with one LHR stopover had ZAR5478 in taxes, and I would guess that in general a DONE5 should have higher taxes than an AONE4 right?

With the e-ticket confirmation by email, they included (without asking) a tax breakdown:

Code:

FARE ZAR  45340  TAX    1286YQ TAX    496US TAX    3696XT
    TOTAL ZAR  50818

          QO98CN159SW123SG126HK88YC112XY80XA37XFORD4.5

In an email prior to issuing, they included it in a more readable format:
Code:

Use these .pdfs to get an idea of country specific taxes:1294GB is the £80 UK "AIR PASSENGER DUTY" charge (~USD165).

That's probably all anyone needs to know but APD is a complicated beast. If someone is interested in the sordid details this is the place to check:

which can also be downloaded as a pdf (330KB):

No detail of taxes in Tax Bar fom CX JNB

:td:Just got Aone 4 issues in JNB. Used CX. Wanted to use AA JNB as VIAJERO recommended, but was a hassle getting ticket released from CX.
ANY Way: Got the e-ticket with only a total in the tax bar no detail, me thinks I may be getting “riveted" on tax. I called office and asked them again to supply detail of taxes to ticket.

I read in the forum that ICN will recharge for taxes if they are not in the TAX bar.

Thks all for your help.
Next year I will use AA CPT for ticket issue. (Doing a

See if you can get the ticket number to work with the LAN e-ticket print utility:
This may list the taxes.

2old4coach Apr 25, 2008 10:28 pm

.The Lan Utility is great,

However it does not break down the taxes.

It also revealed an incomplete itin. that CX said was "not on the page because of length."

I spoke to CX and they messages JNB for a change.

This entire purchasing process has been unsettling with CX JNB
