It depends on the airline. This month I've presented paper tickets to fly AZ, AC, UA and LH flights out of YYZ. At least in the case of AZ, they seem to have the slot in the back. And even before etickets came to be the norm, some airlines didn't have the slot in the back to insert a paper ticket and therefore would staple them.

Indeed you are correct; I was talking about AC. Their boarding cards used to have the little slot but no longer do.

Cheers

Why not? If we are talking about the oneworld explorer and you know the ticket number of your e-ticket you should be able to change carrier and/or date without any problems. A routing change, involving a reissue, might possibly be a little trickier, but the type of change you mention should present no problem at all.

Just noticed that this was in the oneworld forum, hehe. :)

Let's not get carried away with all these reports about the imminent death of paper tickets. As long as an airline issues a paper ticket they are contractually bound to honor it for the full validity period, or to exchange it for an equivalent e-ticket, if they must.

Not so much concerned about the validity or lack thereof.
Am more concerned about the general mess that will happen when airline staff encounter something beyond the ordinary - which is what paper tickets for travel post 07 is starting to sound like.

As far as I know, e-tickets can even be issued with OPEN segments as well.

When booking a flight for the OPEN segment, you just call the airline, make the booking and give them the e-ticket number. (They will pull up the e-ticket and verify that it can be used etc., and then link the flight segment to the specific e-ticket number)

Routing changes will require a reissue no matter if it is paper or e-ticket.
(Some airlines seem to have a "trick" where they would pull the affected coupon(s) [works for both e-tickets and paper tickets] and "exchange" them for a new ticket instead of reissuing the whole ticket)
